Take a real-life example: Riley Gaines, a former University of Kentucky swimmer, has spoken on college campuses and in public forums about why biological males should not compete in women’s sports or use women’s locker rooms. A position she bases on her own experience competing against a male swimmer. Activists and some university groups have repeatedly labeled her statements 'hate speech,' tried to deplatform her events, or disrupted them with protests and shouts of bigotry. If a similar speaker were invited to a Nebraska college campus or public town hall and faced calls to cancel or restrict the event under 'hate speech' rules, would you support enforcing those rules to shut it down, or would you defend their right to speak even if the views offend some people?
