You're not doing the kids a favor at all. You're making their health worse than it should be.
Kids want and need to wake up later and start their day not earlier. And studies show that. Studies show that DST is not family friendly. Every kid I know wants to sleep in and start that day later and 500 kids that I know. Schools need to start later because of their hormones out of control.
The best thing to tell you is to tell the school board to start at 8:00 and then end at 2:30
If you want an extra hour of sunlight in your evening when you get home of work then wake up earlier and start your day earlier It's time to start asking your boss to come in earlier

Permanent Daylight Saving Time would make winter mornings dangerously dark, with some sunrises occurring as late as 9am. For the sake of public health, safety, and better sleep, please restore permanent Standard Time!

I looked at the 7am time slot a few years back, and standard time has the least dark days over the school year.
