Explain to me how they have a payroll just under $200 million but somehow even they aren't able to afford to keep Tarik Skubal long term. Even with Skubal reportedly projected to command a record-shattering contract worth $350 million to $400 million over eight to ten years you mean to tell me their billionaire owners can't afford that contract. Give me a fucking break!

Teams have 113 games ahead of the trade deadline to prove their worth investing in.
The Pirates had countless chances to be a formidable club, and were capable of sitting where Milwaukee sits now. Their skid this past week would be a minor blip.
But when you’re in a wild card chase, every day the pendulum swings, and in the most crucial week prior to the deadline, the Pirates blew it.
They MUST. SELL. If Lowe is on this roster tomorrow night, they will be setting the franchise back years.

I have seen grounds crews working like this to keep a field playable for a teenage tournament game. Parents shell out absurd cash for their kids to play tournament baseball, so that’s not an oddity.
As far as MLB goes, this is unprecedented.
Don Kelly can’t believe it. He’s ejected. I’ve never seen this before, but Kelly is 100% in the right standing up for the safety of his players.
It’s just common sense to put the tarp on.
