It was an honor to join Deputy Commissioner Allen Borden in hosting Dutch Consul General in Atlanta Jaap Veerman and members of his team in Nashville for Dutch Day on the Hill. The meeting was followed by a reception downtown at Philips — one of the largest Dutch employers in Tennessee — which was also attended by the department's Senior Advisor to the Commissioner Nathan Buttrey and Legislative Liaison Cameron Snow. Relationship building is critical to our economic development success, and we appreciated the opportunity to strengthen Tennessee's partnership with the Netherlands this week. @NLinAtlanta

This St. Patrick’s Day, we’re feeling lucky @AerLingus chose Nashville nearly two years ago for nonstop service. ☘️ Airports across Tennessee are among our most powerful tools for economic development—especially for foreign direct investment—and we look forward to continuing to pursue international flights that open our state to even more of the world. 📸: @Fly_Nashville

Great morning sitting down with Chancellor @DondePlowman as part of the latest episode of her On Leadership podcast. Since joining @UTKnoxville in 2019, Chancellor Plowman has been an outstanding partner and advocate for Tennessee’s economic growth. Her leadership and the university’s work complement @TNECD’s efforts to attract new jobs and investment across the state.

We cannot understate how important relationship-building and alignment between stakeholders are when it comes to landing projects in our state. That was explicitly clear in this project, and we’ll continue to strengthen those relationships through the rest of @GovBillLee’s administration and beyond. “The speed with which it happened was very unique. That's the federal government getting it done, but I hope it speaks to the state’s ability too. ... We had uncanny alignment between our federal delegation, plus state and local officials.”

When Tennessee competes for jobs and global investment, companies often tell us the same thing: Our people and relationships set us apart. That was especially true in TNECD’s recruitment of Korea Zinc. Tennessee was one of 14 states under consideration, and the story was recently chronicled by @nashvillebiz. “‘My thought was, we had no shot,’” McWhorter said in an interview. “‘That first meeting was with the governor, and obviously, some impressions were made.’” Read more about how Tennessee secured this major win: bizjournals.com/nashville/news…

Tennessee ranked No. 4 nationwide for net migration in 2025. With a 43.6 gain per 10,000 people to end the year, the secret is out: the Volunteer State is one of the best places to live, work and raise a family. Read from @VisualCap: visualcapitalist.com/mapped-which-u…

Thank you to our partners at @THEGNPCA and @PitchBook for working alongside @TNECD to launch the Tennessee Private Capital Report. I enjoyed the opportunity to participate in yesterday's report presentation. The data reinforces what we are seeing across the state. The connectivity between investors, research institutions and operating companies continues to strengthen Tennessee’s long-term competitiveness.

We’re excited to see @Starbucks choose Tennessee as the home for this corporate office and can’t think of a better fit than the heart of Music City. Investments like this reinforce Tennessee’s position as a destination for high-quality corporate growth and deliver meaningful, well-paying opportunities for our talented workforce.

Let’s give a warm Tennessee welcome to @Starbucks! The global coffee company is expanding its North American footprint with plans to open a new corporate office in Davidson County later this year. The investment reflects the company’s continued coffeehouse growth and increasing customer demand, particularly across the Southeast. Additional details about Starbucks’ plans in Tennessee will be available in the coming months. tnecd.com/news/starbucks…

It was a pleasure to give a department update to attendees at the @TNBankers Credit Conference Friday morning, and I'm grateful to their leadership for giving me that opportunity. Tennessee is in a great position moving forward thanks to thoughtful and strong leadership – as evidenced by an already strong 2026 where we've seen companies plan to invest more than $2 billion in our state – and alignment between all our stakeholders will only continue to strengthen that position. As we move into 2026, we look forward to investing further in nuclear energy, AI and quantum computing in addition to our already-strong sectors.

It was a pleasure to speak with members of the Tennessee Aviation Association at the 2026 TN Airports Conference. Tennessee’s airports are powerful economic drivers, fueling growth across our state and connecting our communities to businesses and opportunities nationwide and around the world. Thank you for the opportunity to join the conversation and to hear directly from representatives of Tennessee’s 70+ general aviation airports about the vital role they play in strengthening our economy and supporting local communities.

I enjoyed visiting @VanderbiltU yesterday to learn more about its plans for a new innovation district. This bold investment reflects the kind of big-picture thinking that will position Nashville and our region as a leading hub for innovation and ultimately keep Tennessee competitive nationally and globally.

Happy #NationalTileDay from TNECD. 🙌 Tennessee is home to industry leaders like Florim USA, @Daltile, Landmark Ceramics and Portobello America, just to name a few. Comprised of more than eight large ceramic tile manufacturers and dozens of suppliers, we’re proud to be one of the nation’s leading tile manufacturing hubs. As the #1 state for ball clay mining, with 90% of U.S. manufactured tile containing Tennessee ball clay, this industry continues to drive innovation, support jobs and shape communities across our state and beyond. #TennesseeTileValley

I was honored to join TNECD's leader of the department's Office of Innovation Nathan Buttrey and @nashchamber's Lori Odom for a roundtable at the @LifeSciTN Ecosystem-Building Breakfast this week. With world-class research institutions like @VanderbiltU and @StJude and healthcare innovators like @SmithNephewPLC and @US_Antibiotics, Tennessee has the foundation, talent and momentum to lead the nation in life sciences and biotech. The future of innovation is being built right here in Tennessee.

I was honored to speak to community leaders and stakeholders with @blountchamber in Nashville this morning. Thanks to Oak Ridge and its history in nuclear energy, East Tennessee is arguably in the best position to support the nuclear renaissance happening nationwide. At the end of the day, we take our cues from local leadership – alignment between state, local and federal levels is part of what makes Tennessee so attractive to businesses across the country, and we are always grateful for the opportunity to build upon those already-strong relationships.

We’re still talking about @centrus_energy’s major announcement at the end of January to expand its centrifuge manufacturing facility in Oak Ridge. The company is investing more than $560 million to support large-scale deployment and strengthen America’s nuclear supply chain. This project will create nearly 430 new jobs in Anderson County, further positioning Tennessee as a national leader in advanced manufacturing and nuclear energy. 👏 🔗 Watch the full video recap: youtu.be/Kl5u_xmA0fs

Thank you, @TNChamber, for the opportunity to join @GovBillLee and @SouthwestAir CEO Bob Jordan today to share more about our plans for 2026 and what makes Tennessee so successful — the people.
TNECD@TNECD

Thank you to the @TNChamber for including Deputy Gov./TNECD Commissioner McWhorter as a speaker for its 114th Annual Meeting. We closed 2025 successfully, creating more than 8,000 new jobs and attracting companies that invested over $11 billion in Tennessee, 70% of which came from foreign direct investment. In 2026, @GovBillLee's final year in office, Tennessee is primed to take the next step forward as a leader in research and development, nuclear energy and innovation. We look forward to continuing our work alongside our partners to ensure Tennessee remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.
