@lovezelda260337 @Vigilante_Blade @limonpapii @DoesItPlay1 Wii eShop shut down in 2019, how is that 20 years
English

@limonpapii @DoesItPlay1 Why on earth would you think that? That's a fantasy. They've already shut down Wii/U/DSi/3DS shops, and probably will shut them down within a decade of their shut down
English

@DoesItPlay1 The servers responding to GKC's download requests will outlive you, me, and everyone else in this thread lol
English

@Elthesensai @DoesItPlay1 A gkc is not tied to the eshop and that was proven with Elliot. You were able to download it despite it not being available
What's insane is that you are irrational to see that not only are you wrong, but ppl are allowed to have preferences, not just mindlessly call it garbage
English

@Pingui812 @DoesItPlay1 Also, big publishers we're doing shady things on Switch 1 like buying the smallest size to save money and requiring the rest of the game for download, Nintendo decided to make that an official cheaper option (for both parties). That's why GKC exists, publisher greed
English

@DoesItPlay1 Key Cards were created by Nintendo as a way to keep a retail release available for third parties without opting for code in a box. They were created to stop said third parties from going digital only due to the expensive format. In no way are they a Trojan horse for all digital.
English

@Pingui812 @DoesItPlay1 Nintendos carts are the most expensive physical, if Sony/MS go digital only, next step is GKC only or digital only
English

@Pingui812 @DoesItPlay1 I mean, there's nothing in the cart. Everything is on a server. You take that cart out of one system, even if you can sell it, the games have to be on a server controlled by them to do anything. If that's not a Trojan for digital, what is it?
English

@assikOMG @DoesItPlay1 Small indie studios have been releasing proper physical though. It's only big publishers they go for GKC. Heck look at GTA6, you don't get bigger than that and they went code in a box
English

@DoesItPlay1 Maybe I’ll play devil’s advocate here, but I think this is actually a good move. Nintendo only has one 64GB cartridge and it’s expensive, small/mid indie studios can’t afford putting a small game on it, it’d cost way too much for nothing and they’d lose money 1/3
English

@baohuykhoi113 @DoesItPlay1 @LuftkoppTim Most indie devs are opting for full releases if they do physical at all. Only the big publishers hang on the GKC
English

@DoesItPlay1 @LuftkoppTim So according to you, indie dev with low budget must spend 1/2 of their money to create full cartridges games without knowing if they will be success or not? Or must they increase the price of their physical game to not eat the cost? Or they should release only on digital?
English

@LuftkoppTim @DoesItPlay1 We have no evidence of Nintendo keeping servers up for a "long time". Most of their servers before Wii weren't up for long after shut down. Wii/DSi have only been closed for 7 years, and pending shutdown TBD
English

@DoesItPlay1 Key cards are still a like "half way" physical thing. At least until they close the servers (which Nintendo is known for keeping open for LONG) you can still lend it to a friend, sell it etc.
You can't do that at all with codes that are one-time use and tied to your account
English

@GameKeyCard @DoesItPlay1 Except without Internet download and a server hosting the game (which will eventually be shut down), you are reselling/gifting a piece of plastic that won't function, not a game
English

@cobaltbuizel @DoesItPlay1 A proper physical release has the entire content on it without an Internet requirement to download the game. I noticed you skipped the issue by saying "Once it's installed" instead of "once it's downloaded"
English

@DoesItPlay1 The difference is, once the content's installed onto your Switch, a game-key card functions the same way as a regular card. You can't play the game without it inserted in your console, and you can trade or sell it like a regular game card.

@Niro96 @KevinRelms @RixxGates @Mrha00rj @MRMOONL1GHT Nintendo 1st party might be the last hold out for a while, but carts are far more expensive than discs so if anybody has a want/need to go digital it would be their platform. If everybody else goes GKC/digital, they obviously would go next
English

@Niro96 @KevinRelms @RixxGates @Mrha00rj @MRMOONL1GHT Not just PlayStation, GTA6 digital only came right before this. some publishers have started releasing discs that aren't even functional without online checks, next step is to take Rockstars lead and code in a box it. Especially with this PlayStation announcement
English

OMG! The amount of whining over Sony's decision is genuinely embarrassing. You'd think they canceled food, water, and oxygen. Don't like PlayStation's direction? Keep your PS5 and your physical game collection. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. Accept it and move on.

English

@Niro96 @KevinRelms @RixxGates @Mrha00rj @MRMOONL1GHT They aren't wrong. Xbox will for sure (already rumored helix is digital only), Nintendo is softening the blow with GKC but they are basically digital. Nintendo might hold out another gen, but if all their competitors are digital don't expect that to last
English

@Kios150 @DoesItPlay1 Technically anybody can still press a disc for PC, big publishers just don't want to. Nothing stopping anybody, even you can burn your own. When Sony/MS/Nintendo stops making/licensing discs/carts, no publisher can make physical for that console anymore
English

@jimjim198782151 @CptDandilion @DoesItPlay1 @Kios150 @StopKilingGames Big publishers killed physical on PC long time ago and we didn't yell enough back then. We don't have to go quietly now. Also, anybody can still press a physical disc on PC, anybody can make them, even yourself. console manufacturers are the only ones that can press their discs
English

@CptDandilion @DoesItPlay1 @Kios150 @StopKilingGames Exactly. Thus answering the question, why is this being fought on console, but not on PC.
English

@Mrha00rj You won't be able to buy PS5 games on disc after 2028. That's the problem. Heck, already starting with GTA6
