@unitygames @UnityCodeMonkey Question: why. Why did development resources go into this instead of improving the core engine? The only people I've seen positive about this is the usual Unity influencers, all real-world examples showed it was underdeveloped (like many other new Unity features) and useless?

I believe ghosts exist everywhere but that they generally only affect people from that culture Scares the shit out of me: - White people Ghosts - Dybbuks Kind of scares me: - Djinn - Black american ghosts - Mexican ghosts - Australian ghosts - Russian ghosts - Civil war ghosts *spritz with water like a cat getting on the counter* - Asian ghosts - African ghosts - Indian ghosts - 1700s ghosts Native American ghosts are their own whole thing entirely and chill me to my core and are not to be fucked with and really don't even fit on this list at all

I'm tired of people stereotyping us computer nerds. It is PREJUDICE. Here are some stereotypes non-nerds push on us. They're all FALSE. According to non-nerds, us nerds do the following: - Excessive caffeine or nicotine intake - Unusual or unhealthy sleep schedule, specifically around 3am and 5am - Apparently have tons of tabs open, or something, in terminal or web browser - Desk messy, covered in cables - Hardware nerds apparently do "experiments" just to see if something works - Notes on paper or whiteboard look like serial killer manifesto - Web cam taped, mic disabled, because of "paranoia" - Strong distrust in tech companies, especially social media - Nerd so intense forget to eat or shower - Spend 8 hours debugging instead of reading something which would take 20 minutes because ??? - Apparently we "don't know an answer" but know how to find it? - Some nerds become irrationally angry about GUIs? - Weird obsession with mechanical keyboards I'm so tired of these stereotypes. Literally none of these are true.

there's a profound philosophical point here whenever someone asks for an explanation of a basic phenomenon, one needs to "manage expectations" before any attempt to explain what would an explanation feel like to you? what would make you feel satisfied? an explanation is a reduction of a complex phenomenon to a simpler one at some point, one inevitably runs into the irreducible axioms now electromagnetism isn't *quite* that, but it's damn close btw, that's my first question whenever anyone asks/attempts to explain consciousness what is a meta-criterion for judging whether you've actually explained something?

The White House is confirming U.S. military operations in Venezuela tonight. Let us be clear: these strikes are illegal. The President does not have the authority to declare war or undertake large-scale military operations without Congress. Congress must act to rein him in. Immediately.

@tsoding Personally, I feel like the speed and thoroughness of an editor is one of the main things that matter. VSCode is fine for this, VIM is better if you have the time and energy to fully learn how to use it.

There is an interesting misconception about programmers' tooling. One of the best programmers in the world for some reason use very simple tools. And a lot of people assume that it's because they are old and simply have not learnt the modern tools. This is not true. As you get better as a programmer you realize the importance of simplicity in engineering. You start cutting out the "fat" in everything including your own development setup. A lot of programmers start with very featureful heavy development environments and slowly refine them to a notepad over many decades as they realize what's actually important in Software Engineering.

@F_Botha_USA I know this will blow your mind, but roads built in a vast country that's only 249 years old miiiiiight be a little bit different to place and construct than in a tiny Northern European island constrained by many existing roads having been first laid by the Romans.

My guilty pleasure is lurking on the travel Reddits where Americans ask for advice on insane European travel itineraries. They seem particularly fond of expecting to do lots of things on Xmas Day and Boxing Day. This one is a classic of the genre. I'm almost tempted to comment 😆
