A meteor - nearly 6 feet in diameter and weighing about 7 tons - entered Earth’s atmosphere near Cleveland, Ohio, on March 17, 2026, creating a light show in the sky and the opportunity to find pieces of the space rock on Earth.   The meteorites are suspected to be Eucrites, many of which come from the asteroid 4 Vesta. Watch to learn more about this fireball and how to find and care for meteorites!   Learn more at ares.jsc.nasa.gov/meteorite-falls

@jacecraftmiller The latest GLM imagery (1301Z) does suggest that the boom was a result of a meteor.

The lonely runner problem isn’t just for runners: It can also show how where billiard balls might move on a table, or how to organize a network. quantamagazine.org/new-strides-ma…

A giant equation that describes almost everything in the universe of particles. It’s called the Standard Model equation. At first glance it looks like a wall of complicated symbols. But when physicists break it into smaller pieces, each part tells a simple story. Some parts describe the basic particles that make up matter—like electrons and quarks. Other parts describe the forces that act between them, such as the electromagnetic force. One special part explains how particles get their mass through the Higgs Mechanism. So this single equation is like a recipe for the universe, explaining how the smallest building blocks of nature behave.

An obituary for the short-lived DOE Climate Working Group, from @AndrewDessler over at The Climate Brink. It arose with a bang and died with a footnote in the EPA's endangerment finding repeal.

VARNEY: We were always told that coal is the dirtiest fuel, that there are more CO2 emissions from coal than from natural gas. Is that no longer true? BURGUM: It's true, but then the question goes back to the reversal of the endangerment finding, which is, is CO2 a pollutant or is it something that helps plants grow? We know it does the latter for sure

15 years ago today I arrived on Downing Street in a cage. I've seen off Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak and I'm still going strong. Only two Prime Ministers have ever done longer stints here: William Pitt the Younger and Sir Robert Walpole. Bill and Bob - I'm coming for you... (Photos AP)

The transcript of the MN hearing where an AUSA said “This job sucks” is remarkable for more reasons than that. It’s a searing portrait of a crisis perpetrated by depraved & oblivious high-level officials. Read it all. ... 1/7 documentcloud.org/documents/2687…

In Springfield, Ohio, people are preparing in advance of a “large deportation” promised by Trump. To all appearances, the city is 2 or 3 days from a federal ethnic cleansing, grounded in a hate campaign organized by the vice-president and American Nazis. snyder.substack.com/p/ethnic-clean…

Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, open sea lanes, a stable financial system, collective security ... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition ... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "

I’m Ken Ono. After a long stretch in university administration, I made a personal pivot: back to math, back to education, and into the AI moment with a lot of hope (and a lot of care). If AI is going to matter, it should give humans time back for the parts of learning that are deeply human. More in thread 👇

Just one of the 43 Danish soldiers killed while fighting in the defense of (checks notes) the United States under NATO's Article V. Only time it's been used. The Trump Administration would like to throw both Denmark and NATO into the trash bin over Greenland. An obscenity.
