@loonlake55 I missed some of that. You left out one thing the kids don't have now ... the Draft! I went from a Mom, Dad & two brothers & one bathroom ... to one bathroom that had several seats & basins for about 30 brothers and a rather mean Dad. Steady income, though, and free "food!"

Too many young people are resenting Boomers, claiming that Boomers had it " easy " financially in their youth. Here are a few fun facts about growing up Boomer. 1. Almost everyone grew up with one bathroom. Mom, Dad and all 3-6 siblings. 2. If you did get to take a vacation, you drove. With no air conditioning. No cup holders. No iPads. Just black vinyl seats and bologna sandwiches. 3. There were no club sports. No Parks and Rec activities. Summer camp was for rich kids. Get yourself a bike, a stick and a few friends. If you were bored, you laid in the grass and looked at clouds. 4. You ate what was served. Even if it was chicken livers. No DoorDash, no backup Totino's rolls. 5. No AP classes, no PSEO, no "fun" elective. They assigned you to a class. You went. You did what they asked. Or else. 6. Unless you had rich parents, you had a nice VFW wedding. Maybe rent a room at a modest hotel. 7. Most Boomers got their first pedi and mani in their 50s (when their feet got farther away). We didn't even know people got massages in real life, only in Hollywood. 8. You packed your own lunch for decades. 9. No one knew what red light therapy was, a facial, a spa day, or a cold plunge. Your gym was the YMCA. Usually in a rather old building. 10. We grew up with 18 percent inflation, 14 percent mortgage rates, 3 million continuing unemployment claims, and 200 other applicants competing for the same job. Now, this is not to say Millenials and Gen Z have it easy or don't face problems. It's just to say, nobody has it easy or doesn't face problems. My only hope, as my mom would say, is I live long enough to see my kids' kids complain about how easy they had it!

@andrea_spook I worked in a nearby country, would often make a short trip (usually < 12 hours) to buy the best bread in the world! And biltong! And (then), beer. I assumed y'all were racists, but I didn't see that. Just friendly good people. But I saw mostly small towns and country folks.

A brief observation about Afrikaners resettling in the United States, written primarily for Americans to better understand the character of the people arriving in your country.🇺🇸🇿🇦 Many of us who have already made the move (years ago) are part of large, informal networks assisting new arrivals as they settle. We are often in a position to contribute meaningfully, offering carloads of supplies, helping connect people with employment, and, at times, even providing transportation or vehicles. While resettlement agencies do provide essential basics, there are moments when urgent needs arise, especially for families with young children, where delays due to administrative processes can leave gaps. On several occasions, I’ve reached out to families and said, “I have what you need, and I can bring it to you today.” More often than not, the response is that they will first try to obtain it themselves. This isn’t driven by pride, but by a deeply rooted sense of resourcefulness and independence. Afrikaners, by and large, are people who prefer to stand on their own feet and help themselves wherever possible. Of course, no group is without exception, but I am speaking about the overwhelming majority. Afrikaners are eager to become self-sufficient. They seek employment quickly, secure housing, and work diligently to build stability without relying heavily on assistance. There is a strong work ethic and a desire to contribute positively. In my experience, these are individuals who don’t come to take, they come to build, to work, and to add value. That, I believe, is an asset to the United States.

@BuzzPatterson Brings back memories. Pilot, "Guys, this landing might be rough. The enemy did a lot of damage to the far end of the runway, so I'ma gonna try to stop on THIS end because the bad guys may still be there. Hold on." I think he STOPPED the plane about 15 ft above the ground.

@BuzzPatterson That was read at my Dad's funeral. He was younger than I am now and he was a "student pilot" with his Ercoupe, after not flying for 1/2 century or so. He liked to fly to a city maybe 40 or 50 miles away to eat "liver and onions" then return home. Thanks for posting.

“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air.... Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."

@gunny_retired Except when, as Jerry Lee said, "Great Balls o' Fire!" I have forgotten so much. Guess the bottom wires are 120/240, but ... 50 kW? 4160V? Thanks for your service, Gunny!

@JordanBrace8 @RepSwalwell Thank you! Each thing you say about your mom makes me hope that she writes an autobiography ... or that someone makes a movie (or series) about her! (I'd even settle for a cookbook!) You, your mom, @VP & @PeteHegseth - I wonder who would win at which sport or art ...

@RepSwalwell So you realize I’m 18 right and you blocked me because you’re afraid to answer questions, aren’t you embarrassed? YOU DO NOT LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND I WON’T STOP UNTIL I PROVE IT, EXPOSE YOU, SPEAK OUT AGAINST YOU AND BRING YOU AND YOUR CORRUPTION DOWN!

Sir, and I'll include a brother @thomas_garrard : HR is more powerful than God. They think. NOPE! Stay on track. Some of us did an Oath and are still on it. If you've done an "That's me!", get on board with us. Summary: YOU run your wagon. NOT them. Best wishes.

My flying career is officially over. It came about 644 days earlier than expected. Apparently some of my mean tweets got the attention of the FHTMMM cabal, and my company’s HR department has more power than the Chief Pilots. Anyway, God has blessed me more than I could ever merit, and I know He will stand by us still. 🤠

@ThrillaRilla369 Dec 1968 - I got off the plane at Saigon and was bussed to the Annapolis Hotel (barracks). Frankly I couldn’t believe the level of US military presence. WTF we ended up losing that “war” baffles me. I ended up at An Thoi, Phu Quoc island down wind from nuc mam factories.

Anyone ever get useful help from @dyson @AskDyson? I asked for troubleshooting help March 16, got some replies, "What happens if you do this?" On & on. Eventually they began again with the same checklist. I asked them to escalate to a supervisor. Nothing heard since. Bad.

@DorLinder I'll have to try that two times. First time of everything, I nearly always add 1 - 3 drops of PureCap. Usually makes everything better. But that's just me. Thanks for something that looks like fun!

Items you need: 1 cup coconut sugar 1/2 Cup Water 3 small cinnamon sticks or 1 large Skin of orange, lime, and lemon 1/2 teaspoon bitters 1 teaspoon vanilla Dash of coriander Dash of nutmeg Sparkling Water

@BuzzPatterson Weird. Just exactly how much IS a Duck worth? Trump's "policies aren't popular"??? Some people actually believe that? Even Dems are saying good things about his policies, just not on television. Not ALL Democrats are dumb. (Many are starting to see reality.)

@BuzzPatterson Where can we buy Mark Kelly urinal cakes? The Hanoi Jane cakes were very popular. VN vets are probably still buying the Jane cakes. A worthy goal for ex-Sen. Kelly.

What if Elon actually got stranded in Nigeria, and got locked out of his X account for no reason, so he had to create a burner Elon account from the Nigerian App Store, and that’s actually him trying to message me about bitcoin? Did you ever think of that?
