I'd prefer to keep the current system and think people are way too precious about a 1-hour time change twice a year. But Permanent DST >>>>>> Permanent Standard Time. natesilver.net/p/save-dayligh…

@BMccabe636623 @NateSilver538 What in the hell are you talking about? Measuring time and trying to keep timezones aligned is entirely a manmade concept. Standard time is not anymore "godly" than DST, as both are entirely manmade constructs, regardless of what you believe

@NateSilver538 DST is yet another way man believes he knows better than GOD, what is best. Standard time is superior for our health and well-being as it is more closely aligned to our internal clocks, i.e., at 12 noon the sun is high in the sky - it actually makes a difference for our health!

@RaffAtBaizuo @GetRyback92 @mattyglesias The left aren’t commies and definitely don’t have a monopoly on political violence. You might want to keep the brain cell comments to a minimum given how factually wrong you’re consistently being!

@GetRyback92 @mattyglesias I know this is hard for the remaining 4 brain cells that are ready to parachute out your ear, but the projection is about hand-wringing over political violence, something the left has a near monopoly on.

One possible explanation for MAGA’s lack of interest in immigration legislation — some thought leaders in this space have dropped belief in universal suffrage and classical liberalism and just want to murder their political opponents. slowboring.com/p/trump-hasnt-…

@Daromirus @mattyglesias The last major attempt at proposing significant immigration reduction was blocked in congress during the Biden era at Trump’s behest so that he’d have a platform to run on. This fact runs directly counter to your statement I’m afraid.

@mattyglesias No, MAGA people want immigration legislation The problem is that you have to get it through the senate -- but ALL Democrats are opposing ANY immigration legislation and therefore you have to get a 2/3 majority -- which isn't happening You are projecting

@Dan_Marchand @JeremiahDJohns I didn’t say the witches are doing it. I am merely pointing out that similar to how pigeons can sense magnetism, it could be possible to develop some ability naturally or technically that allows you to observe places and events via quantum entanglement.

@De_Enige_Double @Noahpinion @StevenGlinert These exist already! I don't know how easily they're ordered in Europe, but in the US you can buy portable mini splits surprisingly easily. Not super cheap, though

@Noahpinion @StevenGlinert Windows that fit American style window units are super rare. Mini splits can't be installed in rentals. I've been waiting for someone to develop a portable mini split with an external unit you can just put on your balcony and an inside unit like regular portable unit.

Dunking on Europeans for their lack of AC is fun, but the extent of chimping is getting annoying. Yes, Germany will need to build out infrastructure. It will cost Europe billions given the increasing heat during summer. But, the idea that Europeans does not have AC SOLELY for ideological reasons is just BS. An AC buildout takes decades. You need to retrofit houses. You need to build out an industry of installers and get equipment prices down and supply chains down. Some number: 18% of German homes have AC now and that’s around 1960/1970 levels in the US. Getting to 80% (which might not be economic in Europe), took 30 years. Lastly, and probably most importantly, for Americans to gloat about Europeans being unable to build is just a little bit rich.

@trickyhawes @Noahpinion It’s not hard right to realize that lack of AC is killing people right now as we speak. Yes, climate change is real and a huge issue, but AC isn’t causing it in any meaningful way. As we try to fix this nightmare, we also have to keep people alive in the process

@Noahpinion The heat wave in the UK has prompted an intensification of the debate about climate change. Tackling the cause, not the symptom. Are you participating in that debate? Or has X and the hard right so addled your brain that you can’t?

I know people like to say the American elite doesn't care about regular Americans. But here's a British man sitting in an air conditioned studio telling regular British people that it's selfish of them to use air conditioning. I can barely even comprehend this.
Good Morning Britain@GMB

Is it selfish to get air con in the heat wave? Air conditioner units are selling out as Brits struggle with the soaring temperatures, but with around 4% of total global greenhouse gas emissions attributed to air con, should we be using them when we know they're heating the planet?

“AI is just another tool”, no it’s not. It’s a SERVICE. There’s no process, you’re just ordering results online. It’s like saying that Domino’s is a tool for making pizza. So u less you’re using local models, don’t call it a tool.

@lolcohol Probably related to the fact that Mobalytics and Maxroll have hijacked free build sharing. The pathofexilebuilds sub had to mandate PoB links to stop this crap. Pretty logical progression to move from adwalling builds to paywalling them, sadly.

Where did this whole concept of paywalling builds even come from?? Were any reputable creators talking about doing it or is it some weird concept that people invented out of boredom while waiting for 0.5 lmao Link clips if it actually happened but I'd be surprised

@thizzelleX @Noahpinion Walkable pockets? I walk virtually everywhere in Boston lol. It's kinda cheating since it and the surrounding cities (Cambridge, Somerville, etc) are all pretty small, but it's essentially European city levels of walkable here.
