The idea that the Red Sox stink because they overindexed on defense is a bad argument. Nobody builds a team around defense. They botched the Bregman situation. They botched the Duran situation. Story and Yoshida are still clogging things up. Roman is 21 and struggling for the first time. But the biggest defensive upgrade they made was Willson Contreras - who is also their best hitter - so the only way you come to the conclusion that they “built around defense” is if you think Caleb Durbin was Plan A, which he obviously wasn’t.
