@HansFiene We just joined an LCMS church in early March and both of my babies were baptized. Not only did they not charge us anything, but they gave us over $100 in books, bibles, catechisms, as well as books for my children. We love our church family so much already. Soli Deo Gloria!

You can either sincerely believe that baptism is a holy sacrament that confers forgiveness, life, and salvation or you can sincerely defend charging people for it like it’s an AirBNB cleaning fee, but you can’t do both.

Protestants are making a nothingburger out of a minimal fee many Greek Churches have because baptisms are usually large celebrations, not empty “symbols.” This covers baptismal robe, candles, perhaps icons, and the celebration feast after. Many churches simply ask for a donation. This is nothing, btw, compared to most fundie churches which demand 10% tithe whereas most orthodox churches leave it all voluntary. This is just more ignorant moral gotchas because they have no intellectual arguments for their sects.

He’s right though. Your list says “Most Influential Persons in History.” Person. Not God. You accepted the framing by celebrating the list and only got upset when a Muslim pointed it out.
Also, Muhammad ﷺ is #3 and he never claimed to be anything other than a man. No divine nature. No resurrection mythology. No church councils needed to explain who he was. Just a man whose influence is so undeniable that even non-Muslims rank him above almost every figure in human history.

Jerome(and many RC's at the time of the reformation) viewed them as useful for self edification but not useful for doctrine or dogma, which was also Luthers view. When Luther translated the Bible into German they were included
