@ArcanesValor @ChrisPacia Plus it makes the cause and effect much clearer so people like children or the color blind won't choose accidently

If you vote differently in these scenarios congrats you are irrational. Time to do some introspection and figure out why you respond emotionally to things rather than logically.

@loserbent Press blue. You create the problem that could kill you. Press red you take no part in it. Red is the only sane choice.

I want you to map out the consequences past the first order. Think about it deeply. First, think about the people who survive. Then, think about the societal effects of the choices and the death then, think about the downstream effects of that first-order thinking is: press red, live. I am asking people to go past that
Lovhes@genius_eu

@dyingscribe How would red button pushed be a "selfish, individualistic, and insufferable"? I'm asking because you're usually objective enough. Nowhere does in the premise hints whatsoever that the red button pusher are forbidden from making more people pick the "YOU'LL BE FINE 100%" button

@LumbyGoblin @jdcmedlock No. When the cause and effect are as obvious as a giant blender or wood chipper then I'm not willing to risk my life to save those who jump in.

@jdcmedlock I thought the “giant blender” framing was interesting because it makes you viscerally imagine the mechanism of death. But it still made me think if *anyone* is in that blender I also need to get in that blender.

@RhydianMurphy @thinkiamsad yeah, it is mildly horrific to see him watch squid game and decide that it would be a great thing to make IRL.

@thinkiamsad I saw someone describe his as the perfect example of the banality of evil, because he will construct elaborate torment nexii for poor people but in a way completely absent malice or indeed any feeling or thought at all other than "this will make a good thumbnail."

i find mrbeast fascinating in how he seems like the purest possible example of a man with zero intrinsic motivation of any kind. it's all extrinsic—money, views, being liked. i can't think of a single time i've seen him enjoy something for its own sake
emily north@north0fnorth

the real shocker for me with these videos isn’t how mrbeast comes off as sociopathic but rather how pathetic he seems. flying in youtubers from other countries to ask how to create fandom & dming people who criticized beast games 1 to ask if 2 was better comes off as so desperate

@DogHydra25 @myhandle exactly. Children and color blind people might press blue. No buddy in their sane mind would jump into a woodchipper or blender or hold a gun to their head or whatever theoretical a red wants to claim is the same as the original situation.

a creepy guy tells you that he's collecting DNA samples from everyone. if more than 50% of people willingly give him a cheek swab, he'll be able to create a supervirus that kills everyone who didn't give their DNA but spares those that did do you give him a DNA sample?

@TBestig @myhandle Yeah. It's understandable to choose red. It's incredibly annoying when they call blue people idiots especially after they won and saved everyone.

@myhandle I don’t have any inherent malice toward people who picked red, but the more they talk about how it’s the “correct” option, the more pissed I get. “I just really don’t want to die” is a more defensible reason than “well if everyone picked red we’d all live, so blue chose to die”

@MoffFrieren @oliveegger Well for one thing those irrational, illiterate, emotional people were working jobs and maintaining the fabric of modern civilization. losing around 49% of the population is not something that a civilization can withstand let along one as interconnected and complex as ours.

why would a society full of irrational emotional and/or stupid and illiterate people be more functional than a rational society of calculated self interested people? people acting in predictable self interested ways is another sort of high trust society, tho potentially less warm than what we have today. but a society of irrational, illiterate, emotional people is some sort of severe dystopia no matter which way you look.

I want a dystopian novel about the aftermath of a red victory. Characters navigating an “every man for himself” society, maybe the main character is someone who virtue signaled blue but chose red in the end

@waitbutwhy Well the blues seem to want to kill the reds and the reds were okay with the blues choosing suicide. Now everyone hates each other and I'm pretty sure both sides would willingly go to war to kill the other side. Other than that everything is great!

@waitbutwhy You should add a purple button that will save everyone if the majority vote for it, but without risking the voter's own life. Red would win the majority then...

@sriramkiron @waitbutwhy This isn't about kindness or empathy. This is about common sense. If everyone picks red, everyone survives. There is literally no scenario in which the blue button produces a better outcome for anyone.

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@urangini93580 @waitbutwhy Wdym? The premise was to choose. There's no chance involved. You choose red and you're guaranteed to survive. Everyone chooses red, everyone survives. Those who chose blue are either suicidal or idiots.
