@antoniogm If you have to layover in Reykjavik: rent the cheapest car available, drive to a community pool in a suburb of Reykjavik, pay $2, soak, chat with locals, shower and change, get a meal at a local fast casual spot, grab a coffee, head back to the airport.

@pasta_nachos Eminent domain from Chicago down to St Louis, outside of cities like Bloomington would be much cleaner than going from Chicago, to Detroit, to Toronto. As someone else pointed out most of the work would be in one state. You can link it up to Milwaukee as well.

@ajlamesa One of our "marquis" stadiums turns out to be about the worst place to host World Cup games. But it's New York, so they have to.

Okay, two more thoughts about the World Cup transport issue: 1) It's ridiculous that people staying at nearby hotels will require buses, shuttles, or Ubers to reach the stadium, but that's the reality of this awful complex. 2) Given powerful AI models, why does Google Maps still provide totally unreasonable pedestrian instructions that will get people killed? AI can't detect that there's nowhere to walk?

@elikowaz @IhabHassane "But it's classified as a military occupation" doesn't make it less of an apartheid. You could have a military occupation and treat all residents equally under the law.

@IhabHassane I oppose the settlements. But under international law, the West Bank is still classified as a military occupation — the settlements don’t change that designation. Half of that 750,000 is East Jerusalem anyway, which is a different legal category.

This is not a serious understanding of history. Apartheid South Africa had a formal legal architecture of racial separation — pass laws, bantustans, codified by race. Israel has Arab citizens, Arab judges, Arab members of Knesset. Even the West Bank is a military occupation — a different legal and moral category.
Zachary Foster@_ZachFoster

Apartheid became part of the name of the country, as in, “apartheid South Africa.” Apartheid Israel should be the same. The word Israel should never be mentioned without the word Apartheid.

Leftists never treated trump as the threat he is. They treat him like some sort of test for them to measure and critique democrats’ actions and response to. In their minds, trump didn’t go to war, democrats didn’t do enough to stop him from going to war Trump isn’t corrupt, democrats failed to stop him from being corrupt His actions are never his own fault, it’s always democrats fault for not stopping him

Whatever you think of Trump trying to deport these two Iranian women (how will he even get them there?) we can all agree this is not the behavior of a confident man. A military that feels good about its war effort does not need to turn its attention to the random (supposed) grand niece of a guy they assassinated in a drone strike 6 years ago. This is the behavior of losers and cowards and that’s an objective observation, not a judgment.

@BmoreFun2525 @Stuart98_ @lefttwick Then you're no worse off than if you'd reliably voted, by definition. No Biden largely did not address progressive policies (no weed legalization, kept many Trump era deregulations, slavish devotion to Israel, etc). Directly spitting in their faces is a bad way to whip votes

Anyone who listened to the arguments knows that Gorsuch is a HARD no, and Kavanaugh likely is as well. This thing is dead in the water because the Constitution is VERY clear on this. The real story here is that Alito and Thomas - the 2 who proclaim to be the strictest Constitutionalists on the court - are going to vote in the minority on this one because they've both completely sold their credibility as jurists to do whatever Trump wants. Anyway, this is a long way of saying this guy is an idiot.
