I had a great time meeting with environmentalists in the West Valley this week. Climate change is one of the defining challenges facing Los Angeles - and getting together with people who are deeply committed to solutions is how we build a plan that actually works. I'm looking forward to what we're going to do together in the months ahead.

This would have been my choice to win this year's Archibald Prize for portraiture. It was the only contender to reference something important that happened this year, the only one in which the picture itself told a story. And the execution is exquisite.

My only real confusion with the encyclical thus far is the just war part, because he says it is outdated but also that the concept of self-defense in such contexts is not but that's just the just war theory.

If you transfer blame from the individual for their own actions, you should not be a mental health counselor.
It is very dangerous for emotionally unstable people to have affirmed to them that their own actions are under anyone else's control or influence.
Then self-destructive behavior becomes a means of proving how bad/evil other people are, and how much of a victim you are.
