A United States Senator got pepper-sprayed for trying to conduct oversight at a detention facility where hunger strikes are taking place. If ICE is willing to use force against elected officials and protestors asking questions, imagine what’s happening behind closed doors to everyone else. I stand with everyone demanding accountability at Delaney Hall and calling for its immediate closure.

As governor, I’ll make California energy independent with a cheaper, faster, and better energy system designed for the 21st century. Here’s how I’ll do it: 1. I'll cap Big Oil's profits and refund drivers. I'll set a hard cap on refinery profits. Every dollar collected from Big Oil's illegal markups will be returned directly to Californians. 2. I'll investigate Big Oil's price gouging. I'll work with the Attorney General to launch an official investigation into the "mystery gas surcharge" that allows Big Oil to rip off Californians. 3. I'll tax private jet fuel. California drivers pay higher taxes to fill up their cars than billionaires pay to fill up their private jets. I'll double the tax on private jet fuel to invest in our communities. 4. I'll make electric cars affordable for everyone. launch a massive state "Cash for Clunkers" program. I'll also triple the EV tax credit so working and middle-class households can afford to transition. 5. I'll fast-track clean energy. I'll overhaul the CPUC to slash red tape. This will force utilities to fast-track new clean energy projects and lower bills. 6. I'll block manufactured shortages. I'll expand California's state strategic petroleum reserves. This will protect families during crises and stop Big Oil from creating artificial shortages.

I’m back at Delaney Hall with @GovSherrillNJ and other members of the NJ delegation to meet with families of detainees and listen to community advocates. We’re working together to make sure they’re heard and to speak out with them.

Delaney Hall must be shut down immediately. ICE cannot be allowed to continue operating in this way.

Tonight, two young New Yorkers fell while subway surfing on a Brooklyn-bound J train near the Williamsburg Bridge. One teenager is dead. Another is fighting for his life. This is a preventable tragedy. No family should get a phone call like that. Subway surfing is deadly. My heart breaks for the families of these young people.
