@MikeSievert Dude — love you, love Tmo. Completely insane phone call right now with tech support as family member tries to switch to new iPhone. Would love to help this become clearer and smoother for your customers. Pretty please point someone to me 🙏

@TomGeue The distinction from an econ professor (@JulietSchor ?) a long time ago was “time saving” v “labor saving” with laundry machines as a canonical example. (Unclear if any ‘time’ saved, certainly more washing done.)

Spot on. Not once in the history of capitalism has new tech freed up the worker’s time. Time saved is instantly clogged up with other bullshit. Any AI utopianism will end in the same fate - the ‘freer’ our time, the more work to fill it with

@randomdross I’m very sorry to hear this news. Prayers for his loved ones. I will always treasure our work conversations and he always took the time to answer my endless questions. Giant loss for the industry.

@randomdross Others (more qualified than I am, ex @JohnLaTwC, @ericlaw) have already commented on David’s brilliance and insight. I hope his family and loved ones understand how significant and consistent David’s patience, intensity, and kindness were to those of who got to work with him.

PDP-1 demo at @ComputerHistory this weekend. Few computers have played a more important role in the history of computing. It spawned Spacewar, one of the first ever graphical computer games, and largely introduced the concept of interactive computing. I was in awe to discover that the docent presenting it was Peter Samson, who was one of the original Spacewar programmers at MIT and pioneered some of the first digital music. When we talk about building on the shoulders of giants, he is one of the giants. What an incredible privilege to see him in person still sharing the history of this incredible machine 60+ years after he first started programming it. computerhistory.org/pdp-1/peter-sa… Huge thanks to @danllewin and the whole CHM team for ensuring these remarkable machines are preserved for the future.

@adamac @Trunksthedj The food is great. The guy at the front who takes orders must be the owners’ son. He is extremely rude. All the charm of a North Korean border guard. I think he may have some social behavior disorder. I ignore his rudeness and eat the good food.

And in the infuriating annals of "no means yes" gone high-tech, my auto-correct is consistently turning every "no" into a "yes" (and also vice versa). Explanation?
