A short, concise, informative video from @HJS_Org and @james_rogers. Intelligently detailing Britain’s historic geographical advantages, and as a result, our contemporary global reach. What is the geography of British power? youtu.be/nQcT9wYmXZk

I worry more about UK energy security, resilience, and social cohesion than I do Russia or Iran. Sectarian politics, uncontrolled immigration, crime, net zero and a poor economy are this nations most significant threats

@DefenceSenseUK @DefenceSynergia @IBallantyn I think MN would agree with you but the strength of the Nuclear industry in France made Nuclear power a non-negotiable which in-turn forces them into a one carrier Navy.

Just a little tease for next Wednesday…. See @JJChalmersRM on board @HMSPWLS during a dramatic leg of their deployment. F-35B’s drop Paveway IV’s off the coast of Iran, and preparations ramp up for a dangerous transit through the Red Sea. Do not miss it!

The UK ships cost did not, of course. include air group(s)? The real challenge, as UK has found out, is creating and running the CSG in its entirety, without neglecting/sucking the life out of the rest of navy. If a govt won't step up to that need, you get a deformed navy, whether you have one or two ships.

@TBrit90 Potentially going to a conflict where the predominant threat is aerial drones and missiles… Lots of sensible people…but would love this one explained…

Looks like the UK's one operational attack submarine is still on the other side of the world despite war in Iran. A sign of the importance of AUKUS - though that does require Donald Trump staying on board & he doesn't sound too happy about the lack of UK support in the Gulf

We’re in Australia for the latest round-up of #RoyalNavy activity. HMS Anson has been visiting Perth as part of the AUKUS defence agreement. 🔗 royalnavy.mod.uk/news/60-second…

@thinkdefence I think more pertinent in regards to T31. Often seen ambition for forward basing these, theoretical simpler equipment fit. What does that mean in practice? Traditions 1.6 say from 5 Or does that push it to 2 or even 3 from 5?

This is a good question. Naval ships tend to have a higher fit out density and much wider array of complex systems, so will self-evidently require greater maintenance. Commercial shipping also has a very focussed 'time is money' mindset that drives productivity, this will also shape support elements. In all things, easy to clutch pearls, but the easiest way to improve capacity is to make sure we do more with what we have
John Redwood@johnredwood

A commercial shipping company does not have to have three to five fairly new ships undergoing maintenance to keep one at sea. So why does the navy?
