Brown was taken into custody, treated for gunshot wounds at a Boston hospital, and remains in police custody. He faces charges including two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, plus firearm possession and other offenses. Brown had a lengthy record: 2014: Convicted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and witness intimidation. He was on probation for this at the time of the next incident. May 16, 2020: While on probation, Brown fired 13 rounds from a .40 Glock at two Boston Police officers responding to a 911 call about a man with a gun (in Boston's South End). Officers returned fire; no one was hit. 2021 Guilty Plea: He pleaded guilty to charges including armed assault with intent to murder. Prosecutors (under then-DA Rachel Rollins) sought 10-12 years in state prison. Suffolk Superior Court Judge Janet Sanders sentenced him to 5-6 years followed by probation. Rollins publicly criticized the sentence as too lenient. One officer's victim impact statement warned: "I am a firm believer that when Mr. Tyler Brown gets out, he will hurt, or worse, kill someone. Probation apparently means nothing to Mr. Tyler Brown, nor does the value of life." At what point do we hold judges accountable?
