It is deeply disappointing and alarming that the Transgender Rights Amendment Bill, 2026 has been passed both in the Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha. For weeks, transgender persons across India have been raising their voices, protesting with dignity and courage - yet the government has chosen to ignore us. A bill that directly affects our lives has been passed without meaningful consultation with the National Council for Transgender Persons, community activists, leaders, or the transgender community itself. This is not governance - this is exclusion. The Modi-led BJP government has once again shown that it is unwilling to listen to marginalized voices. Imposing policies on us without our participation is a direct attack on our dignity and autonomy. Tamil Nadu has already shown India the way forward. The Tamil Nadu Transgender Welfare Board stands as a pioneering model - one that respects, includes, and uplifts the community. Instead of learning from such progressive frameworks, the central government has chosen a path of control and discrimination. Forcing transgender persons to undergo validation of their identity by a medical officer or district magistrate is not just unethical - it is a gross violation of human rights. Our identity is not subject to approval. This bill clearly violates: • Article 14 – Right to Equality • Article 15 – Prohibition of Discrimination • Article 21 – Right to Life and Personal Liberty We will not be silent. We will not be erased. We will continue to fight this battle legally for our dignity, our rights, and our existence. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the parliamentarians who stood up and opposed this bill both in Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha . Your voices matter.
