Reports suggest Ottawa could buy around 30 F-35s and 60 Gripens, while Saab has proposed building aircraft in Canada and creating thousands of jobs. The move follows Canada's decision to select Saab’s GlobalEye surveillance aircraft over competing American bids. @CDNPolicyHawk If it’s a high-low mix, Gripen isn’t the right choice. Go with F-15EX to use as arsenal planes. F-35 moves close to do SEAD and get air to air locks, transmits them via datalink to the F-15 carrying 20+ missiles to throw. F-15 doubles as a very respectable ground attack plane.

@AshleyBurkeCBC The jets are highly desireable on the private market and this would allow their legacy to live on for years to come. This is what is done with used American military aircraft and in the US there are several private organizations that own and fly retired military jets for airshows

An irreplaceable recruiting tool for the Canadian Armed Forces. And the government had 11 years to find a replacement — and dragged their feet. To make matters worse? They plan to replace our Canadian-made CT-114 Tutor jets with foreign-made propeller planes — making Canada the only major NATO ally without high-performance jets in this role.
