Congratulations to the graduates of Class 177 as you step forward into your new careers as police officers. You have chosen a profession that will challenge you in ways you cannot yet fully imagine, but will also reward you with a profound sense of purpose and service. Wear your badge with pride, support one another, and never lose sight of the responsibility and honour that comes with the oath you have taken.

A proud moment as our newest Police Officer Pre-Recruits are sworn in, alongside experienced officers joining the Vancouver Police Department. Each brings dedication, experience, and a shared commitment to serving our community. @vancouverpd #JoinVPD #Vancouver #policing #VancouverPD

Last Friday, our partners from across the city came together to assemble 500 warming kits for the vulnerable members of our communities. This initiative brought together colleagues of the Downtown Van team, Amazon, the @DowntownCPC and representatives from seven BIAs. We’re deeply grateful to @amazon for their generous support, which made this initiative possible, and to our community partners for demonstrating what can be achieved through collaboration.

#VPDNews: Vancouver Police are deploying additional officers to maintain order this weekend, in anticipation of increased protest activity throughout the city. “Everyone has a right to gather lawfully and to peacefully express themselves,” says Sergeant Steve Addison. “Our officers will have a visible presence at protests and gathering spots throughout the city to ensure everyone’s safety. We hope people will respect each others’ points of view and rights to express themselves, even if they don’t agree.” Approximately 6,000 people gathered at various locations in the city last weekend to protest various geo-political issues, including the uprising in Tehran, the war in Gaza, and conflicts in the United States. While the majority of protesters were peaceful, VPD officers had to physically separate some groups outside the Vancouver Art Gallery to avoid physical conflicts. Police expect the size and number of protests to increase this weekend, and will be deploying extra officers on foot and on bikes, and those who are specially trained to manage large crowds. Currently, more than 130 officers are scheduled to be deployed for 11 planned protests, which are expected to draw thousands of people to the downtown core throughout the weekend. “Our objective is to maintain order, provide a safe environment for peaceful gatherings, and to minimize disruptions for people who are not involved in the demonstrations,” says Sergeant Addison.
