I’ve been cautious about GLP-1 medications. One of my primary concerns has been the loss of fat free mass (ie, muscle). But I was wrong.
The paper published last week (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41850248/) showed that most of the “fat free mass” that’s lost not only isn’t from muscle, but it’s mostly from shrinking the liver. Ironically, likely partly due to a reduction in liver fat (which gets counted as fat free mass on DXA scans). In fact, muscle strength was completely normal and the muscle:fat ratio was significantly improved.
There is still ample reason to be cautious, but the concerns about muscle loss appear to be overblown.

@Bar_tolmi @ferrell_travis But it does claim to be a record of the inhabitants of some peoples in the early 1800's. And I have personally been to many of the sites found in the record.
English

@DrKenTaylor @ferrell_travis D&C doesn't claim to be a record of the ancient inhabitants of the Americas.
English

@ferrell_travis @Bar_tolmi Based on archeology one should accept the Doctrine and Covenants as scripture as the archeology is strong.
English

You frame it as though archeological evidence is more important than it is. It’s interesting, but it is a side quest at best.
Simon did not declare Jesus to be the Messiah because of archaeological evidence.
Paul did not change his entire belief system and endure persecution because of archaeological evidence.
Noah did not build an ark because of archaeological evidence.
People today do not believe in Christ as their Savior and Redeemer because of archaeological evidence.
You are focused on the wrong thing.

On my mission to Spain, we tracked into a “intellectual man”. He was a student of the Bible and was excited to have two LDS missionaries there in his home. We were welcomed in and after offering us cookies and hot chocolate, he proceeded to ask us deep intellectual questions - all of which led down a carefully constructed path to a gotcha conclusion, designed to prove us wrong through the use of his superior intellect, logic, and reasoning.
I grew up with a Southern Baptist preacher as a grandfather (who lived on the farm next door to ours), and until that experience, had wrongly concluded I had heard every anti-Mormon argument out there.
I learned a lot that day about honest seekers of truth.
On this platform, I regularly find shadows of that intellectual man from so many years ago. Many people are repeating similar arguments, just wrapped up differently.
Few people are honestly looking for truth. Many are driving conversations toward a gotcha or are quick with an insult or to declare victory of some sort (over what, I’m never quite sure).
Nearly all demand my time and I’m never even offered cookies and hot chocolate!
In the quest to find God, knowledge is important. Surely logic and reason are as well.
However, religion cannot be proved through exercises in logic, reason, or even the acquisition of numerous degrees in theology.
God doesn’t prove His existence or the truthfulness of His word by answering every demanding question hurled from the innumerable critics.
To find Him, He gives us a pattern to follow.
In James 1:5 He tells us that if we lack wisdom to ask Him directly.
The Book of Mormon has the same council.
“Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
“And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
“And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.”
God, who knoweth the inner heart of all men, will reveal Himself to those who are humble seekers of truth.

“The question is sometimes asked, ‘Are Mormons Christians?’ We declare the divinity of Jesus Christ. We look to Him as the only source of our salvation. We strive to live His teachings, and we look forward to the time that He shall come again on this earth to rule and reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In the words of a Book of Mormon prophet, we say to men today, ‘There [is] no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent’ (Mosiah 3:17).”

@ALScyborg Should we limit meat? We don’t talk about that part in the Word of Wisdom very much
English

Ask me ANYTHING about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons or LDS) and I will be happy to answer! I am not an expert, but I have been a member for my entire life.
You can’t offend me with any legitimate question.
I believe (know) that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that the Book of Mormon is true.

@PTSPentax @JS_StrngstSldr @jacksonfrandsen I was reading Barry's website in the early days and bought an early version of his book. Barry asked if I was interested in writing a short review to be put on the back cover when he had it published officially. So that's my claim to fame. 😂
English

@DrKenTaylor @JS_StrngstSldr @jacksonfrandsen Oh nice!
I won’t actually, because I only have the Kindle version, and it doesn’t have the back cover.
What was your contribution?
English

@PTSPentax @JS_StrngstSldr @jacksonfrandsen Thanks. I think you will find my name on the back cover. 🤔
English

@DrKenTaylor @JS_StrngstSldr @jacksonfrandsen I don’t have that paper, but here’s a related excerpt from Barry Bickmore.

English

@JS_StrngstSldr @jacksonfrandsen Do you have a link to that paper? A search did not come up with anything.
English

@jacksonfrandsen There's another paper by Brendan Harris on Augustine's main stumbling block in conversion being the widespread Catholic belief that God has a body.
English

@DavidJohnButler Was sitting in Sunday School and was wondering about an app that would have the Old Testament with the Hebrew/English translation. There were quite a few. Any recommendations?
