@Brimmer___ @Nick_Davidov Mr. von Baum here is a scientist, as I am a horse. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about, just spitting his racism out. Go back to the sewer, please.

@Nick_Davidov They get immigrant visas because the US is one of the best countries in the world for scientific research funding, job opportunity, and pay. All of the temporary visa ones are browns who want a US degree. The scientists want to stay here and are usually White or Asian.

The biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history. So everyone on a O1 or H1B visa would have to stop working legally in the US, go back to their country and wait for years of backlog? This includes top scientists in our universities, founders of billion dollar companies (at least 3 just in our portfolio would be affected by the way). And if we look at individual countries it becomes even more bs. Indians would have to wait decades. Russians don’t have anywhere to go (there is no US embassy in Russia, hello?). This is the worst imaginable way to disrupt important work for the country and pretend you’re fighting some loophole.
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

@AGungorAydin K99 are weird, and you often get poorly fit reviewers that don't always understand your field. I got a 49% on a K99. That same grant got a 2% as a parent R01 on first submission.

After a depressing week, it's time to share that I could not get K99! I published 2 papers, 1 submitted to bioRxiv, and included 2 new preliminary data between A0 & A1 submissions (only 6 months). My score was 33 and I know it's not the best. However, they describe my research👇

Excited this paper is out @CellCellPress ! 🎉 This work explores the role of MOR and SST interneurons in ketamine’s antidepressant effect and identifies synergistic approaches to develop new therapeutics. Big shoutout to @hermanymv and all the team! cell.com/cell/abstract/…

Salk Institute@salkinstitute·
Salk Institute scientist Shrek Chalasani has been awarded up to $41.3 million from ARPA-H to advance a breakthrough technology he pioneered, sonogenetics, which uses ultrasound to precisely control cells within the body. This funding will help transform the Chalasani lab’s discovery into a potential noninvasive therapy for a range of conditions, including peripheral neuropathies. By enabling targeted control of mammalian cells without surgery, sonogenetics could redefine how we treat disease. @natashajaques @sivareddyg I contacted two Canadian institutions, each twice, to get clarification. No answer. They have no idea what they are doing—such a waste of $ and false hope.

Are you a U.S. academic frustrated with the funding situation? Move to a Canadian institution and get $8M in research funding from the Government of Canada.
