Today’s Constitutional Court challenge against #CA3 is exposing more political inconsistency than constitutional principle. #CA3 is not bypassing the Constitution — it is operating through constitutional mechanisms specifically designed for amendments. Parliament opened the Bill to public debate, consultations were conducted and the process is unfolding within the law. That is how constitutional democracies function. What opponents really seem upset about is not legality, but political outcomes they cannot control. Transitional constitutional clauses are not illegal or unusual. Democracies across the world adjust governance frameworks as national priorities evolve. Zimbabwe is apparently expected to be the only country where constitutional development must stop permanently to protect opposition talking points. The attempt to personalise the matter around President Mnangagwa is equally theatrical. The case before the Court concerns constitutional interpretation, which is exactly why the Attorney-General addressed it legally through affidavit. Courtroom matter. Not Twitter Spaces material.
