@Liquid_Bulk Scr systems already have Nox sensors though? They also fail all the time. Is this new legislation just removing the def quality sensor? I’m confused as nox are already in use

I could be wrong here but I don’t believe DEF is going away per say “EPA is taking immediate action on this new information. The agency’s new guidance makes clear that under existing regulations, manufacturers can stop inaccurate DEF system failures by removing traditional emission sensors, known as Urea Quality Sensors, and switching to nitrous oxide (NOx) sensors.  EPA also affirms that approved NOx sensor-based software updates can be installed on existing engines without being treated as illegal tampering under the Clean Air Act.” Urea (DEF) would still be used to reduce NOx however the urea quality sensor (which should be gone) will be replaced by a NOx sensor.

@Michael72172097 @angel_of_baal @FirstSquawk @grok Def has nothing to do with black exhaust. It removes clear invisible nox. The black soot is burnt and filtered out via the doc and dpf prior to the exhaust going through the scr/def system. Def is the last stage of emissions after treatment systems.

@angel_of_baal @FirstSquawk @grok I don’t think you fully appreciate the “obvious complications”. 1)it’s literally pig piss. 2)it’s ineffective.. only changes color of exhaust. 3)it’s expensive to maintain equipment. 4)it raises costs. 5)it’s apparently only effective in ca. (according to ca)

@indietrucker I-96 Tank Wash in Portland, MI gets all of our Reefer Trailer washouts in MI. In Cabbage season, I’ll run a truck over there to avoid the wait at a corporate location.

Anyone else notice the paradox of tank/trailer washouts? Most times a worker with a garden hose will outperform a corporate cleaning service with a million dollar cleaning system.

@TheGrandkansan @scatpack103 @trucker63068 @JoelMorrowADTC Yes, but the payment part of the payment - efficient savings calculation does account for that already. It actually over accounts as the payments will run the assetprincipal value down to 0. Those calculations always seem to assume 0 carrying cost on the low mpg trucks too…

@TheGrandkansan @scatpack103 @trucker63068 No, but someone is getting significantly better mpg in a cross wind… I have a small fleet as well and agree on the value of less debt with the uncertainties of fleet ownership. Much harder to guarantee asset utilization. Debt can still be kept low with fuel efficient trucks

@scatpack103 @Drybulk279 @trucker63068 The fact i have less debt spread over 13 trucks and 16 reefers then so.eone with a new mpg wizards 1 truck changes the whole game for me ...nobody is getting optimal mpg with a 50 mph crosswind

@scatpack103 @trucker63068 @TheGrandkansan It definitely is a lot of money. But a well specced one running 10mpg and $0.05/mile maintenance costs vs a classic at 6mpg can easily save $30k/yr in variable running costs.

@lets_truck @LaserEyeWojak It’s not grinded out gears that fail- it’s the components that are different in amts vs manuals. Clutch actuator failures are very common. Clutch packs wear out quickly due to excessive slippage or failing actuators. Control housing components like forks and pistons go out.

@lets_truck @LaserEyeWojak theory is correct but the mDrive is notorious for going out in the 400k mile range. At least in local and regional service trucks. I have first hand experience and share sentiment with Mack shops. Not durable transmissions. Performance awesome and still my preference though!

Kevin Rutherford / Let's Truck 🇺🇸
Maybe we should go back to mechanical engines, twin sticks, and no front brakes. Blaming advances in equipment is the cheap, easy way out. Today's trucks are far superior in every way. Auto-shift transmissions are more fuel-efficient and last longer than mechanical transmissions. We need better driver training and an apprentice/mentor system to teach drivers. Should we mandate that all commercial vehicles be manual-shift? In all cases, we need to fix the Root Cause of the issue, not look for the easy way out.

@trucker63068 @TheGrandkansan And $250k truck prices are reserved for the 6mpg long noses, not the plastics! New Macks and Volvos listed at $175k right now. True business tools, not toys!

@trucker63068 @TheGrandkansan You’re not taking a necessary skill out of trucking though. If your truck doesn’t need to be shifted, then you don’t need to know how to shift. Doesn’t affect any of the other required skill sets

@ImAntCalabrese You think being a small business owner puts you into the poor class and makes you unsuccessful??

I think the problem I have moreso with SMB is they don’t want to talk business. They want to tell you no so they can feel like they told a salesperson no which is why they are an SMB and why they will stay poor and unsuccessful. Complete waste of time to try convincing these guys how you can help them - they don’t even want help. Most people hold onto their dollars “he’s trying to take my $5!!!!! My $100!!! No!!!” If you think that way about money you will always be poor. Tough pill to swallow but it’s true. In no way am I suggesting to be foolish with your money, you still need to be calculated. But you need to be open to good opportunities or working with people who can teach you or have a good product to offer your business. SMB owners from my experience never get past this hurdle and think everybody is out to get them or something of the nature.
