@engineeringolf That’s for Match Play. The classic example is a long par 4 where the high HCP can only get there in 3, while the low HCP might just miss the green or be bunkered. Both are likely to make 5 so no stroke needed. But it is counter intuitive so my old club abandoned it and reverted.

Mallet or Blade? We analyzed ~20,000 rounds in Stack Putting. Golfers complete simulated 18-hole rounds (4–30 ft putts) on a practice green. Results, handicap, and putter type are recorded, and strokes gained is calculated vs a chosen handicap. 📊 SG (vs 12 hcp): • Blade: 0.74 • Mallet: 0.59 • Mid-mallet: 0.38 Average handicap was nearly identical across groups. The differences are real—but small relative to player variability. Blades are associated with slightly better results… but this isn’t great science. It’s observational, not causal.
