A home equity tax is a fantastic idea, but it should only apply to homes bought before 2021 so it only covers those who enjoyed the free ride of the housing bubble. That housing bubble did massive damage to Canada, and ppl who profited from it should pay some tax to the country

@macleans Ottawa is so unserious that we'll never have a real foreign intelligence agency. Canada does not have the strategic culture for this kind of thing. Having always been a colony of the UK or a vassal of the US, all strategic thinking has always been done for us.

There is precisely zero economic benefit in producing higher value-added goods. What firms want are higher *margins*, wherever they can get ’em — it doesn’t matter where in the value-added chain. The value-added fallacy is one of the oldest and most pernicious in economics. It’s a form of industrial snobbery: the kind that leads people to lament being “hewers of wood and drawers of water” in the country with perhaps the greatest supplies of both in the world.

I would also say this is a problem for Army officers also. Too many with the generic degrees like Military Strategic Studies when they should have a deeper knowledge of technological systems now.
