In the margins of today’s Foreign Affairs Council, the HR/VP hosted India’s External Affairs Minister for a lunch discussion with EU foreign ministers. At a time of growing geopolitical uncertainty, the EU and India are delivering on our Summit commitments and advancing our Joint Strategic Agenda, from security and defence cooperation to closer coordination in the Indo-Pacific.

Les firmes canadiennes ont désormais un accès direct au marché européen de la construction de bâtiments, évalué à 1,1 billion de dollars. I will convene an extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council via video link on Sunday to address Iran and the rapidly unfolding events across the Middle East. I have been in contact with our partners in the Gulf countries. The Iranian regime’s indiscriminate attacks against its neighbours carry the risk of dragging the region into a broader war and we condemn this. It is essential that the war does not spread any further. The Iranian regime has choices to make.

In January, the European Council empowered the Commission to provisionally apply the Agreement as from the first ratification by a Mercosur country. Over the last weeks, I have discussed this intensively with Member States and the EP. On that basis, the Commission will now proceed with provisional application.

On 18 February 2026, on the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada @a_plakhotniuk, together with his counterparts - Ambassador of @EUinCanada Geneviève Tuts @EUAmbCanada and Ambassador of @CyprusinCanada Stavros Hatziyiannis, сo-hosted the 12th meeting of the Friends of Ukraine Group in Ottawa. The meeting brought together Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Ottawa from more than 60 countries, and we were particularly honoured to welcome Alexandre Lévesque from @CanadaFP. Discussions focused on coordinated efforts to advance a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, strengthen military assistance and air defence, protect critical energy infrastructure, and expand defence cooperation, including through mechanisms such as PURL, SAFE, the Czech initiative and the Danish Model. Participants also addressed the need to further tighten sanctions pressure on Russia. Particular attention was given to ensuring Russia’s accountability for the crime of aggression and war crimes, as well as supporting the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and @BringKidsBackUA initiatives. We sincerely thank all partners and participants for their continued solidarity and steadfast support for Ukraine. #StrongerTogether 📸 @EUinCanada
