The story apparently is …. “There I was minding my own business when suddenly and unexpectedly @joshsimonsmp resigned his seat. I was walking along and suddenly I had been nominated for the vacant seat … with hardly any campaigning I was elected with such a “national” mandate … that the PM felt he had to resign. At that stage … people said I had to stand as Leader … so of course I felt I should “respond” … but don’t worry everyone will love me …” ….

Translation: oops, didn’t realise people outside our ideological bubble are THIS pissed off about the loss of sex-based rights. We remain implacably opposed to any organisation fighting to retain them, but shove in the words ‘rights of women’ to keep the bigots happy.

The UK government is about to pass the most anti-gay legislation in over a century. Labour’s “conversation practices bill” is gay conversion therapy by stealth. My latest for @unherd. unherd.com/2026/06/labour…

Great news. The Labour Party has finally found a woman they fancy as leader. It's a man who'll be 'a female PM in all but sex.' A senior figure in the party actually thought that was a good thing to say out loud. ✍️ @ShippersUnbound

This. If it was about wanting somewhere safe and private to pee, third spaces would be fine. It’s not. It’s about claiming territory, validation, and winning. Dominating, intimidating and humiliating women is the point.

@soniasodha @LordWalney @DAaronovitch I am not going to use a third toilet for some bigot. It’s insane.

Sad to read in @thetimes that Bridget Phillipson is blaming me for delay to EHRC Code. She certainly stoops low. She had Code for 3 months when she sent me this letter last November - no indication of any grandstanding then.

This is the context in which Bridget Phillipson is fuelling unwarranted backlash against the EHRC by trying to blame it for her delay in laying down the guidance. And she accuses feminists of being one side of a “frothing” culture war?
teresa smith@treesey

This is another reason why using the @EHRC as a political punch bag has to stop. It speaks only to naïveté or cynicism from politicians The EHRC doesn’t make the law

Important question to be asked of Andy Burnham about these views expressed in 2022. Does he still think feminists like me are culture warriors only "supposedly" defending women's rights, when we say men must not be able to identify into women's services and sports?

"Using voters to support politicians rather than the other way around, which I think turns a lot of people off." Andy Burnham should be careful not to take voters granted or it could backfire, The Times's columnist Fraser Nelson.

“What they absolutely cannot do is steal the mandate that Keir Starmer won and convert that into a radically different programme for government.” Any new Labour leader who tries to shift the party to the left should “absolutely” call a general election, says Lord Hutton.

Appointing former ministers into advisory roles looks a lot more like trying to bind people into supporting your failing premiership than "resetting" your government and rebuilding your relationship with voters.

Bravo, @Keir_Starmer, for getting in an Adviser on Women and Girls who thinks the definition of women and girls includes men and boys. That'll definitely win back people who believe Labour's a party for smug, lanyard-wearing, luxury-belief-espousing cultural elitists. 1/2

I’m delighted to appoint @HarrietHarman as my Adviser on Women and Girls. Harriet is a strong advocate for women and girls and I know she will deliver greater opportunity for women in public life. I’m committed to tackling structural misogyny that is a barrier for too many women and girls. I look forward to working with Harriet to drive forward action on this important issue.

The cat flap in my kitchen door is now officially renamed the Straits of Hormuz as it seems to be opening and closing every five seconds and I’m not sure when I agreed to any of this.

😺 Catzilla has taken over Hong Kong Airport! A giant 8-meter ginger cat moves, purrs, and looks almost real. It reacts to “petting” and “feeding” via an interactive screen. You can see it at Terminal 1 (Arrivals Hall A) until May 2, 2026. If you’re flying through Hong Kong — don’t miss it, it’s the best way to start your trip. Have you seen it already — how was it?
