Superficially, you wouldn't think any of these social problems have hit him & his friends, but then he'll say something about how, when they hang out, no one is talking to one another.

One thing though (dare I challenge my favorite @bensasse) while I think many of us are on our phones too much, I don't think that's what's causing collapse of sex and dating. I think it's something more complex. On dates, men aren't pulling out their phones. But their social skills are atrocious in different ways - trauma dumping on first dates, rudeness, having nothing to say for themselves, a lack of curiosity about other people. Some of this points to phones- the many men who ask me out and ghost the moment I say yes. It's not the phone exactly but the being able to move on once they're happy they got some approval. There's also the men who announce to me on dates that they're really awkward. It's this lack of confidence and belief in themselves and it's so pervasive. I can track and trace some of this but not all of it. And it's often among pretty successful men. But it's also obvious at least some of these men lack deep, sincere, open friendships- the kind that build confidence, even if theyre successful elsewhere in life. I think this bit gets into third spaces and socialization broadly, and societal pressures on men that are changing but not clear
