🚨IOWA’S GREAT BETRAYAL - RED STATE SURRENDER
In 2021, just weeks after Biden’s catastrophic Afghanistan collapse, Governor Kim Reynolds threw open Iowa’s doors.
She accepted nearly 1,000 unvetted Afghan arrivals, almost all classified as “humanitarian parolees,” the least-screened immigration category in U.S. law.
Republican officials applauded.
Refugee agencies cashed federal checks.
And Iowa taxpayers were told it was their “moral obligation” to absorb the influx.
Then came 2022, and the façade collapsed.
📍ONE YEAR LATER: Refugees Still in Hotels, Still Unsettled, Still Complaining
In 2022, a Central Iowa TV station aired a segment revealing what really happened to Iowa’s Afghan resettlement project. Families who had been in the state for twelve months were:
Living in hotels
Waiting for permanent FREE housing
Unable to get their children into school
Facing “problems every day”
Describing Iowa life as “like jail”
One Afghan father, who refused to show his face, told reporters:
“I didn’t come here to be a jailer… I came here to have a good future. If it is like this, I don’t think I will arrive to a good destination.”
A year of taxpayer-funded assistance, and the resettlement system couldn’t even meet its own promises, yet the media’s response was to scold Iowans for not being “supportive enough.”
No scrutiny for the agencies paid to manage this.
No scrutiny for the officials who approved it.
Only guilt aimed at citizens.
WHERE DID ALL THE TAX-PAYER MONEY GO TO?
🚨 WHAT NO ONE IN IOWA IS ALLOWED TO ASK: Why Are We Bringing These People Here?
The public was never told:
Who these people are
Why they were assigned to Iowa
What benefit Iowa communities gain
How thoroughly they were vetted
How much this would cost taxpayers
The truth is simple:
Iowans gain nothing from this resettlement pipeline. Not economically. Not culturally. Not civically.
But while ordinary families struggled with rising rents and shrinking services, Iowa imported foreign nationals who, one year later, were still living in taxpayer-funded hotels and demanding more.
🚨FOLLOW THE MONEY: Refugee Agencies Were Paid to Handle This
The same organizations claiming to be “overwhelmed” were actually enriched by the Afghan influx.
Under Biden’s Afghan Placement and Assistance (APA) program, agencies received:
💰 $2,275 per Afghan arrival
$1,225 given to the refugee
$1,050 pocketed by the agency for “case management”
PLUS millions more through:
Housing reimbursements (e.g., housing up to $3,000/month
Hotel placements
School-enrollment grants
“Cultural orientation” contracts
Supplemental ORR and DHS funding streams
USCRI Des Moines, Lutheran Services in Iowa, Catholic Charities, and the RACI coalition expanded operations and staffing on the backs of Iowa taxpayers.
🚨The Human Cost on Actual Iowans
These weren’t volunteer saints. They were government-funded contractors who failed at the very job they were paid to perform.
While Iowa’s refugee agencies expanded budgets and staff, the Iowans paying for all of this were nowhere in the equation.
Veterans slept in shelters while Afghan families stayed in hotels. Seniors on fixed incomes watched rent skyrocket while NGOs reserved housing units for new arrivals.
Working families scrambling for childcare and stable schools were pushed aside so the system could pour resources into people they had never met and never asked for.
The very communities funding this experiment were the ones most ignored by it.
🚨 Political Accountability
And the officials who engineered it all—Reynolds, her agencies, the NGOs—walked away from the consequences.
They never held a hearing, never explained the costs, never admitted the strain placed on local schools and services.
Instead, they allowed the media to turn blame onto ordinary Iowans, as if taxpayers were the problem for not sacrificing enough.
The truth is impossible to hide now: this was a political and financial project that served the refugee industry, not the people of Iowa.
