Excited to share our work on using generative AI tutors in the classroom - we ran a RCT on 1000+ students at a large high school in collaboration with math teachers. We find that students use GenAI as a "crutch," harming their learning: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

I found this an interesting read because it shows one should put cost into perspective when working with UK Biobank's Research Analysis Platform.
Timothy Raben@TimothyRaben

The UK Biobank (UKB) has been an amazing field changing resource for the past decade. Unfortunately, and very suddenly, they have decided that to work with their data you now *must* use their “Research Analysis Platform” (RAP). @uk_biobank I guess there have been general warning

Excited to release HEMM (Holistic Evaluation of Multimodal Foundation Models), the largest and most comprehensive evaluation for multimodal models like Gemini, GPT-4V, BLIP-2, OpenFlamingo, and more. HEMM contains 30 datasets carefully selected and categorized based on: 1. The **basic multimodal skills** needed to solve them – the type of multimodal interaction, granularity of multimodal alignment, level of reasoning, and need for external knowledge, 2. How **information flows** between modalities – querying, translation, editing, and fusion, 3. The real-world **use cases** they impact – multimedia, affective computing, healthcare, science & environment, HCI. paper: arxiv.org/abs/2407.03418 code: github.com/pliang279/HEMM we encourage the community to add their favorite models and datasets! w @AkshayGoindani1 @TalhaChafekar @lmathur_ @haofeiyu44 @lpmorency @rsalakhu @mldcmu @LTIatCMU

In 1971, one of the most controversial psychology experiments occurred. For 14 days, 12 guards and 12 prisoners turned Stanford into a real life prison. The goal? To understand how any good person can suddenly become evil. This is the Stanford Prison Experiment:
