Following the early release of Carl Beech, the Bramall family, Lady Brittan, the Sir Edward Heath Charity Foundation & I have written to @DavidLammy calling for a review of victim status so those targeted by perversions of justice are finally recognised in law.

Many more who have been through the system could instil valuable change. Especially when it comes to working with prisoners who maintain innocence.

Ouch. It's true that @VeraBaird has had many chances to at least try to put things right at the @ccrcupdate, but seems to prefer to post on X about 'women's issues' So also yet another failure by @UKLabour in appointing an activist lawyer rather than an unbiased figure

Charlotte Proudman has published to all three of her 'X' accounts a serious accusation about a barrister and warned people off instructing him. Unfortunately, she provides a link to the wrong barrister, who has the same name. Some hours ago the barrister in question requested she delete. Now his Chambers have had to repeat the request. For someone so concerned about online abuse and harassment, this is very strange behaviour. I trust she will delete and apologise.

It’s a huge problem, Nick. I’ve spent almost 25 years advising clients who have been falsely accused of sexual offences, including lots of young men. I’ve seen family breakups, destroyed careers and suicides. It’s one of the worst things that can happen to an innocent person. There are many, many dangerous predatory men out there who should be found and jailed, but I think the ‘believe all women’ mantra does more harm than good. False accusers like Stacey Sharples and Carl Breech do genuine victims of sex crime a terrible disservice. @NickBuckleyMBE

Too often false accusers receive lenient sentences. Justice should mean parity: a false accuser should face the same punishment their victims would have received had the lie prevailed. @FACTukorg

Stacey Sharples’s false allegations of rape destroyed lives. Ten innocent men were arrested, jailed in custody & branded rapists. Had she succeeded, they would have gone to prison for years. Sharples has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years. But if her lies had secured convictions, the men she accused would have faced sentences many times longer. Justice would have meant parity: a false accuser should face the same punishment their victims would have received had the lie prevailed. For years we have been told false allegations are vanishingly rare — a narrative repeated endlessly after the disastrous Operation Midland investigation. Former Norfolk Chief Constable Simon Bailey claimed they amounted to just 0.1%. That figure has always been implausible. Sir Richard Henriques, who investigated the scandal, placed the figure far higher — closer to 10%, and even that may be conservative. When lives can be destroyed on the basis of untested claims, the stakes could not be higher. The police must investigate allegations thoroughly — but they must also recognise that malicious false accusers exist. Until the system accepts that reality, innocent people will remain at risk. @FACTukorg
