@RedAsTheyCome @SageDespatches The aim of the IRA was Unification and no U.K. troops in NI Not only did they fail in those aims they disbanded and the political wing helps run NI on behalf of His Majesty the King (Col in Chief of the Parachute Regiment) That is a defeat in anyone’s book

@SageDespatches You claim by "your sources" they were defeated? Maybe try asking the army who actually faced them You're welcome.. 🧑‍🎓🧑‍🎓🧑‍🎓

Someone got a bit upset with me on here today when I said the IRA were defeated. I was told that "Nobody won from the troubles." As I pointed out to that individual, defeating a terrorist group is a win and indeed the security forces in Northern Ireland were "uniquely successful", as an expert on terrorism has said. I know that the IRA being defeated by the security forces is not a fact that everyone likes, particularly supporters of the IRA. There's also the 'nobody won' idea, peddled by the type of people who probably think we should all gather around a campfire and sing kumbaya. Well, sorry folks but in this corner of social media, there won’t be any kumbaya permitted on the topic of counter-terrorism. To say otherwise is insulting to people who countered terrorism and to people who were victims of it. I'm not going to pretend that what people did to hold the line and ensure terrorism, didn't succeed, or was all for nothing, or that they had some kind of score draw with morally bankrupt terrorists. I'm not going to pretend that "nobody won" just to avoid upsetting people. If the fact that the security forces were successful and the IRA lost (yet again) upsets people, that just means I'm upsetting the right kind of people.

Northern Ireland is not a country. Nor are Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland entirely separate following the Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement, which is a shared constitutional arrangement unique to Ireland.
AJ+@ajplus

The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are two separate countries, thanks to the British partitioning the island in 1921. But today there's a growing movement to reunify. @Dena asks people on both sides of the border – do you want to see a united Ireland?

@FaitherJack73 From my knowledge still Scot, I never state you were Highlander. So many took the Sasanaigh 30 pieces & turned on their own. A despicable race of criminals compared to my honorable West Cork republican of not ever surrendering but taking the fight to the enemy & no compromise.

@CharlieCurrie12 Ah they hate the fact they live on the island of Ireland in the great ancient Irish province of Ulster and theres nothing they can do about that. That the walls are closing in on their gerrymandered little Protestant pseudo British state.

Why are so many Loyalists raging against this outcome? Answer; Because they like to know the outcome before the vote. The reason; they still have the mindset of the gerrymandered. And we know gerrymanderers don't approve of fair & free elections.

It's easy to say that now when you live in the unoccupied part of Ireland. I, on the other hand walked to primary school and played football on the streets amongst british army patrols, one of whom was kind enough to hold a rifle to my head when I was 12.

@Frank_Connolly_ read the GFA there is no occupied part of Ireland maybe if the folk you lived amongst didn't give support and hide murdering scumbags then there would've been no need for any Army patrols
