New podcast with world leading researcher into family violence, Dr Don Dutton! youtu.be/MPkqJATG-oE ~ Emeritus Professor, Dr Don Dutton has worked within family violence for 50 years, to become one of the world’s foremost experts on this issue. Dr Dutton has written nearly a dozen books and hundreds of peer reviewed papers on family violence; as a psychologist he's treated violent men for decades, co-founding the ‘Assaultive Husbands Project’, winning dozens of grants and awards, and acting as an expert witness in scores of legal trials, including the most infamous partner homicide trial in history – on the prosecution against O.J. Simpson. He is, simply put, 'the expert's expert'. What's more, Dr Dutton has been unafraid to challenge the male perpetrator, female victim paradigm of domestic violence, looking past the political ideology, and centreing his research on the evidence. Considering himself an "outsider" within family violence research, Dr Dutton has become a contentious character, often vilified for his hard hitting assertions, and reluctance to bow to the 'feminist agenda' that domestic violence is instrumental, and men enacting 'patriarchal power' onto women.

Ignoring female abusers perpetuates cycles of violence that harm everyone involved. We can’t get abusive women the psychological help they need without acknowledging that they do, in fact, exist. Read my latest: eviemagazine.com/post/the-side-…

@FemCondition 40% is a lot since many cases may involve both men and women. So even if all of the rest 60% included male perpetrators, 40% women only is a significant amount and may actually be an underestimate since many cases may involve both men and women

In the 1980s, studies found 40% of the perpetrators of CSA were women. The offenders have not changed. I'm not naive enough to believe women have been cured from perpetration. What has changed is the social narrative, which leaves these women undetected. ojp.gov/ncjrs/virtual-…

There's also systemic and cultural bias against men when it comes to domestic violence. Even though half of all domestic violence is reciprocal and women are the perpetrators in 70% of non-reciprocal cases, men are still presumed as aggressors, and even when they do prove they're the victims, they're still vilified, as we've seen with the Taylor Frankie Paul situation. Knowing all their abuser has to do to is pretend to cry and he gets arrested, fear of being mocked, told they deserve it, or told to put up with it, while also knowing domestic violence shelters will likely turn him away simply because he's a man, makes a man unlikely to seek help. I'm sure that doesn't help suicide rates either.

You wanna know something even more interesting? Teachers give boys higher grades when they don't know that they're boys.

Interesting findings from this study. 🤔😄 Attractive female students no longer earned higher grades when classes moved online during COVID-19. "When education is in-person, attractive students receive higher grades in non-quantitative subjects, in which teachers tend to interact more with students compared to quantitative courses. This finding holds both for males and females." A Swedish university study found that attractive female students got higher grades in subjective, non-quantitative courses during in-person teaching, but that edge vanished when classes moved online, while the male beauty premium stayed. 307 students across 5 cohorts were rated for attractiveness by 74 independent judges, and the pandemic created a natural split where the same kinds of courses were taught first face-to-face and then remotely. That matters because quantitative courses are graded mostly by exams, while non-quantitative courses leave more room for teacher judgment, so when female students lost the premium only after visibility dropped, the most likely explanation was not skill but the halo effect, where appearance quietly gets mistaken for ability. i.e. when evaluation becomes more anonymous and less face-driven, grades look more like performance and less like perception. My read is that this is less a story about beauty than about how fragile “objective” grading becomes once human impression enters the room. --- techfixated .com/attractive-female-students-got-better-grades-until-classes-went-online/

@AeroAerial I wonder how many of those women were also abusive, given that most IPV has been proven to be bidirectional, not mostly against women. Not to mention, women make up the majority of perps of unidirectional IPV pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC18…
