@Floebertus @jackschwager I'm on holiday and away from my book collection but from memory, didn't a large percentage of the featured investors subsequently go broke and/or get convicted of criminal activity and fraud?

Two amazing books are making it to Audible this week. A new edition of stock market wizards by @jackschwager and a brand new book by Lee Freeman-Schor and Claire Flynn Levy! Amazing books 📚

Rarely do I see investors make money chasing the top of a hockey-stick" chart. "This time is different" usually proves incorrect over time.

@Floebertus Are you trying to demolish SaaS or defend it ? Haha. I could take something bad and good from the argument: -Netflix killed the legacy business (bad) - & netflix could not compete in the same vertical (good).

Sure, Netflix can supply instant content streaming, but they can't disrupt video rental stores. They simply don't have the content library, supplier relationships, local customer base, in-street visibility and understanding of popcorn. Same with AI disrupting SaaS

On GoDaddy, this "Contact Us" button is now in the way of the popup bottom menu. @GoDaddy this is dysfunctional website design on your part.

This chart (or a very similar one) played a big role in curing me of my hesitation to buy things when prices felt high:

Unfortunately, the horse is more important than the jockey. So the big differentiator was the competitive environment of the company. I do think it applies to Duolingo in the sense that their success will mainly be determined by the solutions Apple/Google come with, rather than how Duolingo themself build their solution and customer relationships...

@Floebertus I didn’t realize that was your background. Very cool. What would you say was the differentiator when it worked vs. not?

I've been early/wrong on $DUOL thus far and I know this isn't guidance but new CFO basically outlining they could get to $2.5 billion in revenue by end of 2028. Based on the 2026 guide ($1.223 billion), that's a doubling from 2026 to 2028, which would imply a re-acceleration back 40% revenue growth at some point. Market clearly doesn't believe it though.

@Floebertus Personally don’t think you can shrug this off so easily. Iran is a massive country and 16th on the military strength index, whilst giving no sign of allowing symbolic defeat.

Big short legend Steve Eisman not worried at all about Iran: "Things will be better. It will take 3-4 weeks to sort things out and by that time oil will be back down" Very interesting and adamant opinion 🤔 youtube.com/watch?v=kL7r0d…

How many people do you know that are focused on investing? Not doing internal meetings to build a career, not driving sales, not building a Firm, not making a media product... Actually spending the majority of their time on understanding companies ?
