@ukhrultimes Until Assam Rifles is fully shifted out of Manipur, the state will continue to burn. This is not only the sentiment of indigenous communities. This was stated on national TV by widely respected ex-Additional Director General of BSF, PK Mishra, IPS, who had operated in Manipur.

We are Kuki, But not Zo: Unpacking the History and Identity Written by: Lunkhothang Kipgen, General Secretary, Kuki History & Identity Protection Committee The Kuki people have a rich and storied history that predates the British colonial era. The name 'Kuki' finds mention in ancient texts like the Mahabharata and Tripura Rajmala, dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries before the British arrival in India. The British colonial administration also recognized and recorded the tribals living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (Bangladesh), Northeast India, and parts of western Myanmar as Kuki in the 17th century. In 1904, the British colonial authorities even drew a political map of the Kuki independent hill country, recognizing it as Kukiland. This historical context is crucial in understanding the Kuki identity and their distinct place in the region. However, in the 1950s, a new nomenclature, 'Mizo', emerged in the Lushei Hills (now Mizoram), led by Laldenga. This marked a significant shift in the identity politics of the region. Today in our society, some misinterpret the term Zo as our nation, this is unacceptable, because, 'Zo' is a name derived from Mizo tribe in Mizoram, and does not encompass the Kukis of India, the Chins of Myanmar, or the Bawms of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh. There is no historical record or government document that acknowledges the term 'Zo' as a pan-tribal identity. As a derivative of Mizo, 'Zo' should be confined to Mizoram state politics only. Moreover, 'Zo' has no historical or etymological connection to the Chinese term 'Zhou'. The Kuki nation has existed since long before the British arrived in India. Our forefathers fought valiantly in defense of our homeland, notably in the Kuki War (1860-1861) and the Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919). These conflicts underscore our commitment to sovereignty and self-determination. The Kuki nation possesses a well-documented history and territorial claim. It is essential to recognize and respect this identity, distinct from the 'Zo' nomenclature that has emerged in recent times. The Kuki people have a proud history, and it is crucial to preserve and acknowledge their unique identity. Let us stand united in preserving our heritage and asserting our rights. May the Kuki nation prosper and thrive, and may our identity continue to be a beacon of hope for generations to come! Copy right ©Kuki History & Identity Protection Committee (KHIPC)

To Shri Yumnam Khemchand Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur Chief Minister’s Secretariat Imphal, Manipur Date: 11th July 2026 Subject: Urgent Appeal for Immediate Release of Pu K. Lhouvum (Retd. IDES), Chief of Hengjang Village. Sir, I wish to bring to your kind attention the arbitrary arrest of Pu K. Lhouvum (Retd. IDES), Chief of Hengjang village under Leimakhong Police Station and a selfless public leader, at Leimakhong yesterday. The action is highly condemnable and unwarranted. Pu K. Lhouvum is a man of integrity and a well-known public leader to all communities in the said areas and beyond. He has neither condoned any form of violence nor harbored any intention to cause harm to any community. Rather, he has consistently apprised the concerned authorities of the plight of the common people in the Leimakhong area. In light of the above, I respectfully submit that the authorities should instead hold Lok Sabha MP @Bimol_Akoijam accountable for his provocative speech delivered yesterday, his biased interference, and for publicly mocking and attacking the Indian Armed Forces and the Manipur Police regarding the alleged unprofessional conduct at Leimakhong. I therefore urge the concerned authorities to ensure the safe and immediate release of Pu K. Lhouvum. I look forward to your immediate intervention in this matter. Yours faithfully, The Proud Indian @YKhemchandSingh @KonthoujamG @manipur_police @Ccpur_Police @kpi_police @Ukhrulpolice @DCTengnoupal @sptpolice @HMOIndia @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @rashtrapatibhvn @PIBHomeAffairs @GoI_MeitY @MIB_India @BDUTT @vijaita @TanushreePande @ShashiTharoor @virsanghvi @KaranThapar_TTP @NELiveTV @republic @themojostory @TimesNow @FrontalForce @KreatelyMedia @MeghUpdates @JaipurDialogues @debanishachom @BikramjitMK @Paari_Athouba @meiteiheritage @Nagaland_India @Nagaland_Post @morungexpress05 @ukhrultimes @LIANGMAIPOST

The first question concerns timing. Why did the first arrests come more than forty days after the complaint was filed? If the delay was caused by the need to verify statements, trace the movements of suspects, examine technical evidence, coordinate with central agencies or avoid premature arrests, the public can understand that. Serious investigation requires caution. But unexplained delay in a case of abduction and killing can easily damage confidence in the process. The second question concerns Pradip. Since his name was not included in the complaint, what evidence emerged during investigation that led to his arrest? This question is not a defence of Pradip. Nor is it an accusation against the police. It is a necessary question about the evidentiary path of the investigation. If investigators uncovered new material linking him to the crime, that should be communicated in general terms without compromising the case. The third question concerns the named individuals who have not been publicly shown to have been arrested. What is the present status of the investigation against Mr. ST. Thangboi Kipgen, Mr. Lalboi Vaiphei, Mr. Haopu Khaute, Mr. Thangkhulen Khaute and the other persons listed in the complaint? Have they been examined? Have summons been issued? Have searches been conducted? Have warrants been sought? Are investigators treating the complaint as a whole, or only selected parts of it? These are not minor questions. They go to the integrity of the investigation. When a complaint names alleged organisers, village chiefs and several individuals said to have participated in the abduction, the public naturally expects the investigation to account for each credible allegation. A case involving six civilians cannot be reduced to the names of two arrested persons alone.
