Very pleased to join Africa Regional Convening co-hosted by @gchallenges Cha🇨🇦, @SciforAfrica @ClintonGlobal 🇺🇸 and @wellcometrust 🇬🇧 This convening brought together a small, select group of leaders to do something different. The goal is to concentrate more capital behind fewer, higher-impact initiatives. By aligning around shared priorities, sharing risk, and coordinating existing and planned commitments, participants can unlock the kind of systemic, government-led change that no single funder can achieve alone. I provided Government 🇰🇪 perspectives and assurances of our commitment towards domestic financing - both public and private sector aiming at atleast 1% of GDP towards #Science, #Research and #Innovation. Encouraged research and innovation towards commercialization through scale out and scale out. Today, Secretary of State @randeepssarai announced that Canada would commit an initial $190 million to the Global Financing Facility (@theGFF), an achievement for global health 🎉 Thank you to our amazing volunteer advocates and partners. For months, we’ve raised our collective voice for Canada to invest in the GFF to help reverse concerning global trends such as worsening maternal health outcomes and rising child mortality rates. Today's investment is a solid and timely down payment towards this goal. We celebrate today, but keep advocating tomorrow. We’ll continue to call on Canada to build on their down payment to get to $340 million over 5 years for the GFF. Why? because Canadians care about global health. And for good reason. Not only does it save lives, it is also a key to global stability. That's what we call a win-win.
