@mattyglesias Not completely true. For example, the war in Gaza would have happened with anyone after Oct. 7 but nobody else would have had the strategy to drag it out for years. It would have been a much shorter war with clearer objectives. Netanyahu wants forever wars. Others don't really.

@Damon98_ The same issue Jays had last year. Schneider manages push-button R/L but Jays don't have a roster with guys with big splits so it doesn't make sense. Straw shouldn't be pinch hitting for anyone unless it's a bunt situation.

The one thing I will critique about the Blue Jays is that they didn't go out and sign a Rob Refsnyder type bat for the bench who absolutely crushes LHP with power to go with it. Watching Addison Barger get lifted from a tie game in the 9th for Myles Straw is.... Painful.

Even the great modernists, who definitionally dwelled within a thoroughly industrialized technological paradigm, are all conceived of as some vague Victorian types who wrote by candlelight.

Team Canada lost the Gold medal for 3 reasons that the Main Stream Media is way too scared to talk about. 1) Florida Panthers players Brad Marchand and Sam Bennet hid major injuries. Or they were known and still went. (Why?) 2) Doug Armstrong hates the Oilers so left the top scoring Canadian Defenceman and Left Winger (Bouchard and Hyman) off the roster. See offer sheet to Oilers players. 3) Doug Armstrong tried to pump the value of his own players (Parayko and Binnington) to trade them at the deadline. See trade rumours all season. When we are ready for these conversations around personal gain and selfishness we will be ready to compete for Gold again as a country.

@sfrantzman Th challenge is that the Israelis who serve are also the ones who work so the entire burdon of society falls on the same 50% and many of those people are fed up and leaving. The only way to keep it going is more service for the same people and even higher taxes.

This has been known for years. There is little chance Haredi men will ever serve because their parties control coalition politics and they are a growing demographic The burden of service falls on around half the country that is drafted and demographically that half is getting slightly smaller over time. Eventually the draft will be for around a third of the country. Encouraging secular Jewish women into combat units has been one way to get more fighters. Since many national religious women don’t serve, and they are a growing demographic; the future of army service is clear. This is what happens when one chooses to have national conscription but only conscript certain demographics, especially those who have less kids On the other hand, the demographics of those Israelis who make up the vast majority of soldiers (mostly secular and traditional) is strong compared to many countries in the West or some in Asia, so the challenge is not so large because average Israelis have 2-3 kids or even more
