In 2016 India’s global ranking in Press Freedom Index was 133 among 180 countries. Modi has succeeded in taking India 24 ranks down to157 in 2026. India’s rank is lower than all SAARC countries but Afghanistan. Journalism is unsafe, owned by cronies and under political control.

Out of all the mainstream rhetoric today, the most audaciously stupid is the misreading of Kerala verdict as an irreversible defeat for the Indian Left with lines like “doom of communism” & “no state ruled by Left”. Communist movements are rarely defined by electoral outcomes.

2 MLAs for BJP in Kerala is extremely worrisome. While LDF–UDF swings in governance are routine in the state, the rise in the BJP’s strength must be collectively addressed by the the political leaderships of both CPI(M) and Congress.

His name is Arunachalam Muruganantham. He was born in 1961 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. His father died in a road accident when he was a child. His mother worked as a farm labourer to keep him in school. At 14, he dropped out to support her. In 1998, he married Shanthi. One day, he saw her hiding a dirty rag she had been washing and reusing during her menstrual cycle because sanitary pads were too expensive. He decided to make her affordable ones. He made a pad from cotton and handed it to her. The feedback was devastating. He went back to experimenting. He needed volunteers to test each prototype. Medical students were too embarrassed. He tested the pads himself. He built a uterus from a football bladder filled with animal blood and wore it under his clothes. He walked, ran and cycled to test the absorption. His clothes began to smell. The village concluded he was mad. His wife filed for divorce. His mother left. His neighbours ostracised him. He kept experimenting alone. For years, he could not figure out what commercial pads were made of. Then one day, a courier arrived while he was out. His dog tore it open. Inside were samples from an American supplier. He examined the material closely. Pine bark wood pulp. That was the secret. He spent four years building a machine to process it. Commercial pad making machines cost Rs 35 million. He built one for Rs 65000. He took it to IIT Madras in 2006. Out of 943 entries in the National Innovation Foundation competition, his machine came first. The President of India presented him the award. Multinational corporations offered to buy the patent. He turned every one of them down. He sold the machines exclusively to women’s self help groups. Today, over 1300 units operate across 23 states employing thousands of women. Five years after she filed for divorce, Shanthi saw him on television receiving the award. She called. She came back. He held no grudge. TIME magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2014. Padma Shri in 2016. A documentary inspired by his work won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short in 2019. He still lives in a modest apartment. He said if you get rich you have an apartment with an extra bedroom. And then you die. Follow for stories India deserves to remember.

35-year-old Jaswinder Singh, a serving soldier of the Border Security Force died in the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau in Jammu. Jaswinder had been declared fit in nine medical reports, the last of which was issued on 18 March, less than forty-eight hours before his death, in which the medical officer at the government hospital in Jammu stated, “Accused is physically fit after clinical examination in my opinion.” He further noted that Jaswinder had been “conscious, cooperative well oriented.” When the family finally saw Jaswinder in the mortuary of the civil hospital in Amritsar, they found his body riddled with bruises and welts. But only when they removed his clothes and turned him on his stomach did they witness the true horror. The postmortem report however found that 34 blunt force injuries had been inflicted on him. The postmortem report raises concerns about the veracity of this order. It states that most of his injuries were antemortem, that is, before death, and were sustained within the previous four days. @svaradarajan @pbhushan1 @kunalpurohit @thewire_in Airline Pilots Association of India (ALPA) says a two-year delay in implementing flight safety rules under Modi has worsened pilot fatigue. When worker safety is sidelined in favor of corporate interests, both pilots and passengers are put at risk. Safety must come before profit

Let me just say one thing here - I care more about India’s progress than ENTIRE BJP combined. One day you will realize this and regret supporting the wrong side. And, just to remind you, if I really cared about money, I would have joined BJP and ironically people like you would be licking my boots if that had happened.

❗️ALARMING❗️ This is the murder of democracy in broad daylight. CCTV footage has exposed how @BJP4India, in active collusion with the @ECISVEEP, is opening ballot boxes without the presence of any relevant party stakeholders. This is gross electoral fraud being committed openly with the full knowledge and protection of the Election Commission. They have tried every dirty trick, name deletion, voter intimidation, Central Force terror, cash flooding, and failed miserably. Now, in sheer desperation, they have stooped to tampering with EVMs. But Bengal is not Maharashtra, Delhi, or Bihar. We will not sit silently and watch them loot our democracy. Our leaders Smt. @DrShashiPanja and Shri @KunalGhoshAgain have already begun a dharna outside Netaji Indoor Stadium. Smt. @MamataOfficial will personally visit the spot and take stock of the situation. The people of Bengal are watching this daylight robbery. We will not allow the Delhi Zamindars and their puppet Election Commission to steal the mandate of the people.
