We see bridges falling in Bihar and we end up thinking Bihar will not change. Have you ever thought what main reasons led to the backwardness of states like Bihar? Read below in short: 👇🏽 In the below map, the areas circled in RED are the most natural resources rich states of India. Surprisingly, these are also the most backward states of India. The areas in green are most developed states of India. They also have proximity to sea coast or capital region. So, how come states with most resources remained most backward while states with good transport option like closeness to sea developed a lot? It was the Central govt's Freight Equalisation Policy of 1952. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙀𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙮 (𝙁𝙀𝙋)? Ans: For any area to develop, two points are necessary: 1) resources like coal. 2) easy transport/ export options. The areas in red circle had resources but no sea access. The areas in green had sea access for easy import & export options. So, the govt made the policy of FEP in 1952 that said that no matter where you put up your factory, the 'natural resources transport expenses' will be given by central govt. This led to all industries being set up in areas like Bombay, as they had access to sea ports. Had this FEP not been there, the factories would have been set up in states coming in red circle in the pic below as natural resources would have been available easily. But since the govt subsidised transport of resources from red circle to green circle areas, the industrialisation took place in areas near sea ports. This FEP continued for 40 years, during which, states like Bihar went through extreme rob of resources while areas like Bombay went through extreme industrialisation. (You can read about Freight Equalisation Policy before you laugh at some of the poorest regions of your own country.) #BiharSpecialStatus #100DaysBiharPlan @mishranitish @nsitharaman @PMOIndia @IndexBihar
