In America, there are two types of people of Indian origin: Type 1: ------- One highly qualified, go there legally. Work very hard. Make a dent in the universe and still struggle to get a green card or citizenship. Soumith Chintala (co creator of PyTorch that contributed heavily to AI revolution) finally got it - got almost sent back. What a gain for America and loss for India - though he has indirectly contributed to India through enabling open source in a big way. Type 2: ------- Second type goes there sometimes legally, but most of the times illegally. Accuses his /her home country of some sort discriminations. Writes a completely fictional story, helped by immigration lawyers. Gets immediate work authorization (equivalent of green card, because all the benefits are same), and finally citizenship for writing a completely fictional story. These ones go on to form separatist movements to keep the story/fiction of injustice alive - while conveniently hiding the fact that they belong to majority/affluent community in their state in India and hold most of the power. US/Canada immigration system makes it quite easy for the second type, and quite hard for the first type.

In August 2025, the number of employed persons in the U.S. was approximately 163.4 million, with total nonfarm payroll employment at 159.54 million. The U.S. labor force reached a record high of 170.7 million civilians in January 2025.  There are an estimated 730,000 H-1B workers in the US. How can the American Dream be stolen by a small number of talented HIB workers? Is the American Dream so limited in scope and does it rest on such a narrow base? If there were no HI B workers will America’s problems disappear and the sleep of Americans studded with beautiful dreams? May the HIB workers help in slowing the fading of the American Dream as a result of flawed US geo- economic policies and financialisation of its economy The American Dream seems to be now laced by xenophobia. Why create a bogey?

Talking about socialism is a luxury paid for by the successes of capitalism. As I wrote in 2016: "A popular rebuttal is to invoke the socialist leanings of several European countries with high living standards, especially in Scandinavia. Why can’t America be more like happy Denmark, with its high taxes and giant public sector, or at least more like France? Even the more pro-free-market United Kingdom has national health care, after all. First off, comparing relatively small, homogeneous populations to the churning, ocean-spanning American giant is rarely useful. And even the most socialist of the European countries only became wealthy enough to embrace redistribution after free-market success made them rich. Still, why cannot America follow this path if that is what the people want? What is the problem if American voters are willing to accept higher taxes in exchange for greater security in the embrace of the government? The answer takes us back to all those inventions America has produced decade after decade. As long as Europe had America taking risks, investing ambitiously, attracting the world’s dreamers and entrepreneurs, and yes, being unequal, it could benefit from the results without making the same sacrifices. Add to that the incalculable windfall of not having to spend on national defense thanks to America’s massive investment in a global security umbrella. America doesn’t have the same luxury of coasting on the ambition and sacrifice of another country."
