Greece has banned "overweight" tourists from riding donkeys on Santorini. New legislation aims to protect the island’s iconic donkeys and mules from carrying excessively heavy loads, but doubts remain about how effectively the rules will be enforced. The steep, sun-drenched cliffs of Santorini have long been a flashpoint in the debate over animal welfare. For years, these hardworking animals have trudged up hundreds of punishing stone steps under the intense Mediterranean heat while ferrying tourists on their backs. In response to growing international criticism and documented cases of injury and exhaustion, Greek authorities have introduced strict new regulations. Donkeys may now only carry a maximum of 100 kilograms — roughly one-fifth of their body weight. The law also requires better access to shade and water to ease their suffering. While the move has been welcomed by animal rights groups, many remain skeptical. Reports of continued overworking and poor care persist, prompting activists to urge visitors to avoid donkey rides altogether and opt instead for the cable car or stairs. The controversy reflects a larger global shift toward ethical tourism, where the responsibility now falls on both authorities to enforce the rules and travelers to make more conscious choices. As the debate unfolds, the future of this centuries-old tradition hangs in the balance between cultural heritage and modern animal welfare standards.

If the proportion of seats remains the same, how does it change the balance of power. If you have 6 out of 10 seats and number of seats increase to 20 and you have 12, your strength remains the same. All that changes is the size of electorate in each constituency reduces. So what’s the crib all about?
barkha dutt@BDUTT

Big political story breaking now - the centre proposes a constitutional amendment bill to increase the seats of Lok Sabha to 850 - @mkstalin is among first from opposition to lash out & frame it as an assault on power of southern states .

@Akshat_World Where in India do you have 8 hours a day, 5 days a week! Even MNCs don’t follow this in practice, may be on paper. Employees are commodities, to be exploited.

People spend roughly 10/hours working 5 days a week. [8 hours at work, 2 hours in traffic; this is the norm across most major cities] As AI gets adopted: governments can reform labour laws. Institute 4-6 hour/work days. Allow people more time with their families. I am not sure how we got to the point: where working 8 hours/day became the new normal? One of the stupidest things humans have done. AI saves man-hours. This need not lead to lower head counts or firing of employees. Here is how the math could work:- - Before AI: 100 folks worked 8 hours shifts. - After AI: 100 folks work 4 hour shifts at lower pay. - Lower salaries, yes. But, you get more free time and less stress. Many would be okay with this. Also, AI makes firms profitable. This means more corporate tax collection for government. Why not use it to offset increased cost of living?
Nayib Bukele@nayibbukele

AI layoffs are a textbook collective action problem: Each company cuts workers to compete, but if everyone does it, demand collapses. You optimized costs and killed your own customers… and your company.

@GhoshSubarno You have to just state with some authority that you insist they submit the application with the documents you are providing (as long as it satisfies the requirement) and that they are not the decision maker and can’t influence your visa status.

@thetrickytrade But, visa processing agencies such a vfs don’t accept applications without these documents even if the passport has multiple visas and visits. But, I can understand what you are suggesting — submit your application without these documents if you are sure.

@GhoshSubarno Any. Several visa applications mention ancillary documents such as financials, etc etc as “recommended/optional” and not mandatory.

Just what’s this chaos @AirIndia? AI2379 arrives 40 minutes late in Delhi and now we are told there’re no buses available. Does anybody feel responsible for time and opportunity loss for so many people? This is fully within your control and pure incompetence. Hopeless…

@YRDeshmukh @pranesh Really? China has at least 5 indigenous companies manufacturing cellphones which are global leaders. They have DJI which is the global leader in drones. India’s answer to that was we don’t make any and you will have to buy the junk Indian companies make.

@pranesh But exactly the same is applicable in terms of Chinese manufacturing. Their core input was their cheap workforce, everything else followed later. Nothing else was originally theirs to start with. No ??

Assuming a bear market is -20% from the top, we're a while away and even at the bottom last year, it wasn't that bad. More than half of the past 10% falls didn't result in a bear market, but this is one of the closest shaves we've had :) By @CapitalmindMF

How large is your portfolio vs your salary? In your youth it is generally = a few month's salary. In late 30s & 40s, it will be 10-20x your annual salary. Hence a loss is harder to recover. Even if the market eventually recovers, it is hard to deal with net worth erosion that is = many years of income. This is something @deepakshenoy told me when I met him recently & one of the reasons why multi asset funds are important. They fall less than pure equity. Also, why diversification matters more as you get older & having some money outside India. We have a free webinar coming up on that. Do sign up! Link here: share.google/18fI1rxHxR9XKg…

@deepakshenoy @ActusDei 20x of income at age 28. By the time that person is 50, inflation and rupee depreciation would made 20x salary less than his annual salary at age 50. This is too simplistic. What x of last drawn annual salary if salary increase is 8%?
