“Today is a good day.” The city is demolishing the dangerous abandoned apartment complex at 10157 Westview. In the future, it will house a new fire station and a police station. This is government that works. Thank you Mayor for your leadership on this project.

Tonight I joined @HoustonFire District 34 as they worked to put out a fire at a home on Tronewood in northeast Houston. Neighbors were so grateful as we protected their homes from the blaze. Thank you to this and all other crews working on the holidays to keep Houston safe.

This part of the job never gets easier, but we can find comfort in the traditions that keep the memories of our fallen firefighters alive.

Faith communities are essential for any thriving neighborhood. This morning I joined @houmayor Whitmire, @houstonpolice Chief Diaz, and hundreds of men and women of faith at the Mayor & Ministers Prayer Breakfast. Houston is made better by these community leaders.

.@HFDChiefMunoz attended two retirement luncheons celebrating HFD members who spent their careers serving Houston. One hosted by @FirefightersHOU at SPJST Lodge 88, the other by the Houston Firefighters Relief and Retirement Fund. Great to see our retirees and honor their service

If you want the best, hire a veteran. This year, I was honored to speak at multiple Veterans Day events, including with @houmayor and @HoustonsFirst programs. My time with the @USCG brought experiences I otherwise never could have had. Thank you to all of my fellow veterans.

Tragedy brings us together. One year ago today, we lost Ox Garcia when a wall collapsed during a fire at an abandoned warehouse in 23’s territory. Today, I broke bread with his crew as we laughed, cried, and loved on each other. Today and every other day, We Got You.

This morning, we dedicate Engine 13 in honor of Captain William Gunderson, who died of duty-related cancer in April 2021. Will was in my cadet class. His death is a reminder that our jobs as firefighters have inherent risks that often aren’t realized for years.

I am so grateful today for the men and women of the Texas Brotherhood Ride. While hosting a few for a special lunch celebrating this year’s 600-mile bicycle ride in honor of Marcelo Garcia, III and other LODDs, they surprised me with a framed cycling jersey.

This morning, I joined @whitmire_john announcing a location to assist our neighbors experiencing homelessness. With support from district councilmember @JMartinez4Hou and Housing committee chair @ThomasDTiffany, this project represents an important step in supporting ALL people.

Tho morning, we are recognizing one group of HFD firefighters who volunteered their time in Central Texas following the devastating floods this summer. These folks went beyond the call to help when it was needed most. I am so proud of this department, and the people in it.

Last night, we had a great time at Doña Maria celebrating our first year as public safety leaders with Chief Diaz, Larry Satterwhite, and myself under Mayor Whitmire. Thanks to all for your faith in our leadership. We got you.

As we prepare to lay FFP Stephen Scott to rest, I am reminded what makes this career so incredible. Dozens of departments from around the country have reached out to offer love and support. “Thank you” could never be enough.
