It's actually a bit worse than that - it's the whole, 'we will do more with less' attitude from weak 'leaders' who won't say no to their bosses. This causes the harder working guys to run out of capacity, wives get angry at their whinging and they eventually leave the military. Therefore the loss becomes exponential and rapid in its decline, propped up by 'diversity' or the reserves but the professionals have left and the ethos is gone.

This, completely. Recruitment crisis isn’t a fixed matter. It is a direct result of the T&Cs, PR, and the fact joining the navy ≠ a reliable career. NO ONE wants to join a shrinking organisation. If the RN was to expand, and by a lot, the career opportunities would attract many more, and better, recruits. Poor recruitment across the forces is a direct result of cuts, not the cause.

@AnalogCapital @PeterSchiff Yes it does. Many of us (boomers) bought houses with mortgages over 10%. My first two mortgages were 13.5% and 10.6%. It wasn’t fun but the economy continued just fine.

The yield on 30-year Treasuries is above 5%, nearing the highest yield in twenty years. The move from 5% to 6% will be much quicker than the move from 4% to 5%, and the move from 6% to 7% will be quicker still. Given our sky-high debt, this move will trigger an economic crisis.

She called the rocket-firing Gazans “her brothers and sisters.” She didn’t condemn the Islamic terrorism or call for peace. Instead, she outlined a strategic plan: use Muslims who had immigrated to the West (like her own parents) as an economic weapon against Israel by organizing boycotts of Jewish-made products to financially weaken the Jewish state. She bragged publicly about being part of a riot squad that shut down London stores for five hours until they removed Jewish-made products from Israel. This was never about justice. It was about partnering with genocidal terrorists to help Hamas slaughter more Jews. Shabana Mahmood actively worked to advance Hamas’s genocidal agenda so Muslim terrorists could annihilate Israel and its Jewish population. Today, this same woman is the UK Home Secretary, responsible for the safety of British Jews. Let that sink in. The Muslim woman who sided with Hamas against Israel and plotted to weaken it economically is now in charge of protecting Jewish communities in Britain. This is not just absurd. This is dangerous.

@pinstripedline Enquired several times about fulfilling a reservist role when I left the RAF after 20 years. System/comms were so dysfunctional I gave up. This was Jan 2026. Life has moved on now and so have I. Fuck em.

I wonder how many of these applicants are lost due to overly risk averse medical standards? I have lost count of the people I've spoken to over the years who either got rejected, or gave up, in a system that seems intended to reject practically anyone for any minor reason.

@Sam_Cranny I think of it like this: in Afghanistan, every patrol carried metal detectors to help defeat the threat from IED. In the next conflict, those IEDs will be airborne: what kit does everyone need? On the person, the team, on our vehicles and bases.

Would this guy care if a drone detector was added to his loadout? Or a SmartShooter sight to help bring them down. Looks like he's carrying a lot already, but open to any inputs from those that know.
