So… SF guys could readily be used as light infantry and infantry can be shoehorned to do certain special operations tasks but yeah, the assumption is correct. You could argue that SF is highly specialized infantry. As a point, they didn’t give up their CIBs when the 18-series MOS became a thing.

SOF cannot do what the infantry does and the infantry cannot do what SOF does. Two different types of units. Can either be crossed trained…..sure. Can either win a war on its own no. Comparing these two is stupid. Both executed the war in their own mission sets. Both were abused beyond capabilities at times. But both are highly lethal when used within there capabilities and logistical constraints.

I see there's a bunch of discourse about infantry and SOF. From what I understand, the argument is that if you train an infantryman to, they also can do what SOF does. I agree with that, and there's a schoolhouse specifically for it.

If I’m not mistaken I believe the Infantry is the number one feeder MOS into SOF for the Army, and Marine Corps. I guess it’s deck swabbed for SEALs, and air line security for Air Force. I don’t know, I wasn’t in those. Is the Space Force gonna have SOF? Coast Guard count here, their divers are some badasses. Did you see that squirrel, I gotta go!

60 Minutes is now doing damage control for Christopher Nolan/The Odyssey. The View’s Sonny Hostin claims “you don’t know history” if you don’t agree Helen of Troy could be black. Variety tried shaming critics/Elon for calling out DEI nonsense. Typical.

@TheBuddyCSM @codym1917 Okay, we’re sucking up to the NCOs and Officers, but can we at least agree these privates suck and I think it’s best we don’t even discuss the Warrant Officers.

@DelCapslock @Her_Nonymous_D You think they lowered enlistment standards after the 1970s? Hoo boy. That era was the notorious low water mark for the Army and they worked hard to fix it in the ‘80s.

@Her_Nonymous_D This must be a recent thing, since they’ve lowered enlistment standards so much. I served 8 years in the Army in the 1970’s and 1980’s, Combat Arms, and I never saw this. Most guys were so protective of their wives and girlfriends they wouldn’t even show bikini pics.

I got married at 18 to a man in the military and genuinely believed being a “good wife” meant doing whatever made him happy. He was stationed overseas and constantly pressured me into sending nvdes because apparently that was part of being supportive and loyal. I was young, naive, and trying desperately to make the marriage work, so I did it. A few years later, after an abusive relationship and a divorce filing, he casually decided to tell me that the men in his unit would show each other photos of their wives and girlfriends. Like it was normal. Like I was supposed to laugh it off. I still remember the sick feeling that hit me hearing that. Not embarrassment, just pure betrayal. Fast forward 20 years later, I’m on a date with another former military guy and somehow this story comes up. And his immediate response was,,,,,,,

@levfercomedy Kevin gets judged against his normal sized actor/comedian colleagues & his “shortcomings” are constantly exposed. This is unfair. We should instead praise Kevin as the greatest little person of his generation, paving the way for future little people to dream big.

@millardjc77 @TheBuddyCSM Actually, a mil is a meter at a 1000 meters. Yards are for old dudes with MOA scopes hunting whitetails in Missouri. And there aren’t 6400 mils in a circle everywhere. Could be as few as 6000.

@TheBuddyCSM A mil is a unit of measurement that subtends one yard at a thousand yards. There are 6400 mils in circle, so the angular measurement is much smaller than a degree, making this unit of measurement highly effective at producing accurate artillery, mortar, and machinegun fire.

@DonShift3 You see that with hunters too. I’m not sure that if the latest Kuiu camo conceals much better than tan or OD or neutral clothing, but a black rifle definitely catches the eye.

The True Story of "Rhodesian Baby Poop" Rifle Camouflage In the early stages of the Bush War, most Rhodesian troops carried rifles in their original black with wooden furniture. But black rifles stood out in the landscape of dry grass, pale underbrush, and dusty earth. Captured guerrillas frequently remarked how easily soldiers’ rifles could be spotted, often before the soldiers themselves were seen. Some soldiers started unofficially painting their rifles scrounging automotive enamel paints from vehicle maintenance depots. Typically, rifles were base-coated in a medium green, then overlaid with wide swaths or blotches of a yellow-tan. This color combination earned the nickname “baby poop” camo, owing to the unflattering hue of the tan paint. The green mimicked shadows and vegetation, while the yellow-tan blended with the dry grass and dust. Both paints were matte, helping eliminate shine. In many cases, soldiers intentionally left portions of the original black finish exposed, using it as a third tone to add depth. There was no standard pattern; some rifles featured wide bands, others more mottled or intersecting patches. Many weapons received multiple layers of paint over time, creating a distressed, multitone appearance as paint chipped or wore away. This rugged look became so iconic that collectors today often replicate the worn finish. By 1977, the practice had become so widespread and tactically validated that the Rhodesian high command formally ordered all service rifles and small arms to be camouflaged.
