@patristicpill A priest went on a podcast and now I’m gonna go complain on X anonymously. Those who disagree I’ll label retarded. Then I’ll accuse the priest falsely of blasphemy. Maybe get off X dude. You are pathetic. Completely not in touch with reality

@EthanWayne2001 Your whole personality is reactionary. It’s actually very sad. Every time you pop up in my feed it’s you complaining about some issue that doesn’t even exist. You are so diluted in your contempt you think it’s bad when a priest goes and talks to women. You are clueless

@ChristandGuitar @OrthodoxEthos @BahBahBased The claim that scripture is hard to comprehend on your own and attempting to interpret on your own can be dangerous is in scripture. "You disagree with my understanding of what the Church Fathers taught, therefore you're wrong" still isn't a convincing argument. It's silly to claim that sacred Scripture is incomprehensible on its own, while arguing that the writings of the Church Fathers - none of whom totally agree with each other - are the clearer and more reliable guide to the Christian faith.

I've been following David Wood's dive into Eastern Orthodoxy and just finished watching his video with Orthodox Ethos. I have to be honest: It was extremely unconvincing as a positive case for EO. The constant appeal to church fathers over Scripture was a huge red flag. The main argument boiled down to: "This is how Christianity has always been, God wouldn't abandon His church, we're right, so join our church." The most interesting part was about Christians outside the church. OE argued that those outside of EO may "follow" Christ in a sense, but do not have Christ in them for His healing. This clashes with Acts 10: Acts 10:44-45, 47-48a While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. These Gentiles were filled with the Holy Spirit after simply hearing and believing the Gospel - *before* baptism. This makes it tough to argue that baptism is required for salvation, let alone for God's spirit to indwell someone. This also undermines EO's claim of "this is what the Church has always taught."

@Theofash1 @JimJatras More Orthodox to describe it as a body, Christs’ body and groom. The New Covenant is offered to all humanity through Christ. We enter into that covenant by being united to Him in His Body, the Church, and participating in the life of Christ.

@HenryConner6 @JimJatras Likewise, God made the New covenant with a people group, a church community, not singular individuals. When you join his people (Orthodox church) you enter into the New Covenant. Is this an accurate way to think about it?

"In Revelation 5:8 and 8:3-4, saints in heaven—represented by the 24 elders—are depicted holding golden bowls full of incense, which are identified as the prayers of God’s people. This scene illustrates the heavenly, intercessory offering of prayers to God, often interpreted as saints presenting the prayers of believers on earth." -Catholic Answers This isn't "Antichrist"

@OrthodoxGabriel @mosesofseoul In the last two years I’ve discovered majority of evangelicals beleive this. I even saw a YouTube video where a gentleman said this and explained it word for word. He had no idea he was blaspheming God. It’s actually very sad

@desertcynic @NoeticSpring For someone so concerned on how people perceive Orthodox spirituality, it’s funny all you do is complain and whine with an Icon of a Saint Christopher as your profile picture.

Fair, but my concern isn't about the metaphor itself, only reducing Orthodox soteriology and asceticism to one thing. Combined with Pageau's symbolism and Peterson's commentary on religion, this creates a version of Orthodoxy more interested in fairy tales than repentance. x.com/desertcynic/st…

By reducing Orthodox spirituality to a single metaphor, that of illness and health, Romanides and Vlachos inadvertently paved the way for salvation-as-psychological-integration that we see in figures like Jordan Peterson.

@desertcynic @NoeticSpring How did you squeeze in Jordan Peterson as some sort of arbiter or influencer of Orthodoxy soteriology? Also, you mention Pageau and just said his “symbolism”. What are you even saying? Then your conclusion is: people care too much about fairy tales?

It’s not a standard Orthodox practice and it’s generally frowned upon. It’s an extremely fringe thing. A future pan-Orthodox synod should ban the practice altogether. It’s on the same level as depicting the Holy Spirit as some random old man or anthropomorphizing the divine essence. It’s a horrible, Filioquist, and nearly blasphemous practice. God the Father did not assume human nature.

One of the greatest honors of my life was leading the dedication of President Donald J. Trump’s statue to the world. What amazes me is how quickly some people have compared this beautiful statue, created and made possible by more than 6,000 patriots, to a golden calf or idol worship. Let me be very clear. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. The Word of God says, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20:3. It also says, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.” Matthew 4:10. That is the line. Honor is not worship. Respect is not idolatry. Celebration is not bowing down to a false god. Romans 13:7 says, “Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.” Giving honor where honor is due is biblical. Bowing down and worshipping an idol is sinful. There is a major difference. This statue was not created for worship. It was created as a symbol of resilience, patriotism, courage, and gratitude. It was created to honor a man whom many may disagree with, but millions of Americans believe has done extraordinary things to make this nation stronger. People celebrate athletes, musicians, entertainers, and cultural icons while they are still alive. Michael Jordan has a statue in Chicago. Cristiano Ronaldo, Taylor Swift, Shakira, Ed Sheeran, and many others have been honored publicly in different ways. Yet Christians were not screaming “golden calf” over those moments. So why now? You may dislike President Trump. That is your choice. But you are in gross error if you think for one second that I worship this magnificent statue or anything made by human hands. Acts 17:24 says, “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.” My worship belongs to God. My gratitude can still honor people. My faith is in Christ. My respect for a leader does not replace my reverence for the Lord. Before you judge, condemn, or spread false accusations, use spiritual discernment. 1 John 4:1 says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God.” Some of you know the voice of the Holy Spirit. Listen to that voice before you give room to the devil through lies, slander, and false judgment. Ephesians 4:27 says, “Nor give place to the devil.” We can disagree politically and still tell the truth spiritually. This was not idol worship. This was honor. This was gratitude. This was patriotism. And above all, Jesus Christ is still Lord.

@Spies4gold @Catholicizm1 If people’s belief in Jesus Christ rest solely in the shroud then yes that’s wrong and a major issue. Calling the shroud “idolatry” in of itself is also wrong. People do not think the shroud is God, nor it hold power.

@HenryConner6 @Catholicizm1 Faith in a cloth that men used science to prove is not saving faith, it's deception. Why don't you just except it so you can turn to my Father, for He is a jealous God and will not share His glory.

@Spies4gold @Catholicizm1 Once again you have no idea what that word means. No that’s not idolatry. That is just people using modern science to see what the shroud is. Do they worship it? Do they treat it as God? Do they think the shroud will save them? No, it isn’t idolatry it’s modern science u idiot

@HenryConner6 @Catholicizm1 You are trying to prove the Word is real by using cloth, which is created by the Word, this is idolatry. Only the Word came down from God and only the Word can reveal my Father and only if His Spirit reveals His Word which is His Son who became flesh for our Passover Lamb.
