@Aerodude73 @HDMOVIESOURCE Assuming the 5-perf 70MM is 2.20:1.
His prior three films were 2.20:1 on standard digital screens. Dunkirk and Tenet only gave them Flat containers, too, so if operators with scope screens didn’t format the lens, there was letter-boxing and pillar-boxing.

@kirkneverdied I remember when it came out, people were kind of lukewarm on it. Decent, but no Gladiator. While it wasn’t a runaway hit, it still made almost half a billion WW. It’s probably aged well. After Troy was when Pitt really started to hone his instrument as an actor.
English

Since everyone is sharing their memories of the reception to Troy and Brad Pitt specifically…
I remember the reception to the movie being VERY mixed not HATE. Some are claiming everyone hated Pitt. I don’t remember that at all.
Joseph Kahn@JosephKahn
I watched TROY again and I think the problem is Brad Pitt is the definitive Achilles. Anything below his feral physical perfection comes off like weak ass cosplay. Every man is Elliot Page compared to this guy.

@Booker287282941 @WesleyW62623 I thought it was pretty bad. The lead guy is just insufferable. The girl is good at acting, though, and could be a future star. I hope her next movie has an actual story, and doesn’t just make her do ridiculous + obnoxious things for an hour before until an obligatory bloodbath.
English

@WesleyW62623 Calling immediate bullshit. There is no way this move is that good

My Odyssey outrage (what little I had) has gone full circle. It might be so wrong it’s right, and now I’m just curious with sick fascination. Has all this twisted controversy just fueled the interest? Is this some twisted marketing ploy? Will the angered only see it three times? I remind everyone, NO ONE HAS SEEN THIS MOVIE.

@then_right59532 @realsashastone Universally hated is an exaggeration - he was coming off a Best Actor nomination, after all - however, there was definitely a mass sentiment that he was going to be dramatically inferior to Nicholson.
English

@realsashastone Are you kidding? That casting was universally hated
English

@realsashastone I remember there were jokes about Joker being a gay cowboy. But when the first trailer was released the excitement about what he did with the character went through the roof, and people felt clownish for doubting him.
English

@CAMELCASTOff Why was Chrissie always on every FNT anyway? She’s not terribly knowledgeable about any of their topics. And she’s not exactly Carol Burnett in the comedic talent department. Most of her lines get a polite chuckle at best.
English

@TomAandTom1 @RoyPrice Forever I guess. You’re just supposed to commit suicide or retreat to a deserted island. No pathways of forgiveness or redemption. You no longer have a right to earn a living.

@TylerCWhitmore Nolan was so autistic he released a new teaser to theaters every week for 17 weeks where the countdown clock changed.

@jordansfilms @SceneinCinema I remember Pitt grew a giant beard over a year for the conquistador segment.
I think he got cold feet at the last second because he knew it would be an expensive failure.
I love the stripped-down version with Jackman but I’ll always wonder how it would’ve been w/Pitt + 100 mil.

Brad Pitt hated Troy (2004) so much that he wishes he wasn’t in it.
Brad Pitt had withdrawn from a different undisclosed movie, and to avoid legal or financial penalties, the studio (Warner Bros.) let him go only on the condition that he lead another project for them — which turned out to be Troy. he was like, "Okay, fine, I'll do Troy."
Pitt later described it as a “commercial kind of thing,” saying the storytelling lacked nuance and the camera was always focused on him as the hero, without the mystery he prefers in characters.
Despite his personal feelings about the project, Pitt committed fully to the role, training for a year to achieve a physique inspired by Greek statues and even accidentally tearing his Achilles tendon during a battle scene.
That frustration pushed him to change his career path, choosing more quality driven projects and later working with filmmakers like the Coen Brothers and Quentin Tarantino.
In one interview, he even admitted, “I chunked that scene… I blew that scene.”
“Yeah, I fluffed it. It could be better. I would love another shot at it.”
Interestingly, some feel that flatness actually works for Achilles — a character who doesn’t care about anything except winning battles.
English

@peterrhague When the project was first announced they claimed it was about futuristic helicopter pilots.

@LindyTasteful Shutting off the lamp to save bulb hours is prudent.
Some programs will generate an automation to shut off the lamp if there’s no ticket sales, too.
Some theaters burn their lamps all day though. They even stay on between shows.
English

Do they still play the movie even if nobody is watching?

10% of AMC movie showings sell no tickets at all. I made a site that finds them. Go enjoy your private theater

@MayorOfSnark @DreadCentral Monkey had no competition, was from the director of a big hit, had the King branding.
Would be very heartening to see Hokum have a very minimal drop in Week 2. Or even an increase.
I think they’re chalking it up as a W either way. Hopefully they keep McCarthy in the fold.
English

@DreadCentral I'm actually surprised it didn't do a lot better. It was far better than The Monkey and that made 14 million its first weekend, and that wasn't even close to being as good as this.
English

Neon’s ‘HOKUM’ just pulled off a seriously impressive opening weekend for original horror.
Damian McCarthy’s creepy Irish inn nightmare opened to $6.4 million against a reported $5 million budget.

Hints emerge that Dianna Russini will eventually tell her story. Whether she talks, when she talks, and what she says could create a new wave of issues for Mike Vrabel and the Patriots. nbcsports.com/nfl/profootbal…

@aakashgupta With all due respect, I think Martian and PHM are too jokey and desperate for audience approval to be considered “hard” sci-fi.
I keep seeing them described as hard…if these are hard, what do you categorize 2001 and Solaris as?
