Agentic AI for drug discovery is here! 🚀🧪🧑‍🔬 The @RADVACproject is interested in any tech that can accelerate the design of peptide-based vaccines. I just applied for early access. The focus here is antibodies & peptides, but I'm sure agents for small molecules are coming soon..
Simon Kohl@saakohl

Today we're launching Latent-Y: the world's first autonomous agent for drug design, lab-validated end to end. Give it a research goal. Latent-Y reasons, designs, iterates, and delivers lab-ready antibodies, autonomously or collaboratively, with the biological reasoning of a PhD protein design expert. Technical report: tinyurl.com/latent-y-techr… Blog post: latentlabs.com/latent-y Apply for access: platform.latentlabs.com

@regardthefrost @POTUS @NSF Can we have replication markets? (Advance prediction markets on the result of replication attempts, esp. with respect to methodology sections published in advance of whole papers.)

I’m extremely honored to be nominated by President Trump to serve as Director of the National Science Foundation.   Heroic scientists have always challenged consensus to advance the frontiers of knowledge. Recently, many institutions have weakened academic freedom and lost the trust they once enjoyed. Yet across our country, a new golden age of discovery is dawning. Information is open source and debate is public.   The marketplace of ideas is not an efficient market. Finding and funding independent thinkers and builders has taught me to eliminate bottlenecks and favor rigorous science that replicates.  Private funders are developing frontier models and useful technology. Government should take bigger financial risks to pose and answer deeper questions.   NSF’s scientists and staff have built something worth strengthening. Working together, scientists, engineers, investors, research institutions, and businesses can support American genius, enhance national security, enrich our economy, and improve our quality of life.   Entropy is on the march and China is not waiting.

@HoekstraTweets The group that self organized after the meeting is focusing on agricultural bio security, which is great. But I am still primarily focused on virus detection and counter measures.

It will significantly increase my opinion of @Anthropic if they do not back down, and honorably eat the consequences. (For those who are not aware, so far they have been maintaining the two red lines of "no fully autonomous weapons" and "no mass surveillance of Americans". Actually a very conservative and limited posture, it's not even anti-military. IMO fully autonomous weapons and mass privacy violation are two things we all want less of, so in my ideal world anyone working on those things gets access to the same open-weights LLMs as everyone else, and exactly nothing on top of that. Of course we won't get anywhere close to that world, but if we get even 10% closer to that world that's good, and if we get 10% further that's bad) CC @DarioAmodei firefly.social/post/bsky/pv7f…

We worked with @Ginkgo to connect GPT-5 to an autonomous lab, so it could propose experiments, run them at scale, learn from the results, and decide what to try next. That closed loop brought protein production cost down by 40%.

With the imminent collapse of evidence-based vaccine/public health infrastructure in Wash DC: 1. U.S. will become vulnerable to pandemic/bioterrorist threats 2. The states just figured out they won’t have a fed govt to protect us 3. Looking like we’re on our own. Troubling times
Dr. Lucky Tran@luckytran

IT'S OFFICIAL: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York State, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island & New York City have formed the Northeast Public Health Collaborative. The collaborative will issue their own vaccine recommendations and coordinate public health efforts.

It's the following - 15M peoples genotypes - A re-contactable engaged database - 85% of users consented for research - A Biobank - remember most people who did 23andme had an option to select if their sample was by biobanked. It begs the question should one Pharma company own all this or should it be a public asset for research? Can you imagine the amount of drugs and diagnostics that can be created if it was a resource like UK Bio bank?

@SynBio1 Genomes alone wouldn’t be worth much. Genomes plus phenotypes / health data would be (and are) much more valuable.

Regeneron just paid $256 million for 15 million human genomes (plus whatever other assets). Call it $17 per genome. Assume you had about $256 million to spend on collecting biological data. How much would you be willing to pay per genome?

Do you remember BA.3—the weakling cousin of BA.1 & BA.2 that seemed to take the worst from each & had weaker ACE2 binding than even the ancestral Wuhan Virus? After 3 years, BA.3 is back. And it is transmitting. Who saw this coming? 1/13
