Why do rich people always fundraise by asking poorer people to donate to charity? Perhaps if you paid your taxes and paid workers a real living wage there would be less need for charity.

@HumanTakens @ZackPolanski Yeah, that looks like the problem we have locally. It wasn't well implemented at all. However, properly installed insulation etc is beneficial.

This could have been avoided. Failure to insulate every home, end reliance on fossil fuels & decouple energy prices from gas left us exposed to energy shocks. Now we must act: Cap bill rises after June. End fossil fuel addiction. Lower bills, permanently.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Energy prices will surge by £332 a year from July as the Iran war drives up the cost of oil and gas Cornwall Insight - which has a track record for accurately predicting prices - said that the energy price cap will rise from £1,641 between April and June to £1,973 from July It's up on its last prediction, when it forecast that bills would rise to £1,827. The longer the conflict goes on...

Suicide is never the right thing to do. Whether people are terminally ill or suffering from depression, humanity can and should always do more to help people live their lives in comfort and happiness. People need love, care, and support, not death.

🚨THE TIMES OPPOSES ASSISTED SUICIDE ON PRINCIPLE! In a brilliant lead article, today’s Times newspaper declares its opposition to introducing assisted suicide in ALL circumstances. Its editorial declares that even the most perfectly crafted law “would still be a grave mistake”. thetimes.com/comment/the-ti…

@HumanTakens @ZackPolanski I can't see the article. There is a part of Preston which is notoriously bad for having poorly installed insulation and many problems. I was at an affordable warmth forum earlier this year where some people said prob cheaper to rebuild than repair the properties involved

@RightToLifeUK @LordWeirDUP The assisted suicide campaign group Dignity in Dying said the House of Lords would provide “high-quality scrutiny” that would act as “a robust safeguard phase” for the assisted suicide Bill. Why are campaigners now saying the process should be bypassed?

Lord Weir (@LordWeirDUP) argues the assisted suicide Bill is not taking people with disabilities into proper consideration. “There is real frustration among disabled people that this is a Bill being done to them, not with them.”

In reply to Lord Harper, Lord Pannick calls out the filibuster that is blocking the assisted dying Bill. He says Peers are being denied the chance of a final vote to decide on the Bill.

@AdamPollock The optics of a physical fitness instructor threatening a group of elderly people who don't want to be tricked or coerced into trotting off this mortal coil for being unfit are remarkably awful. And 'assisted dying' isn't really Kim Leadbeater's bill. She's doing it for a friend.

The arrogance of Kim Leadbeater is absolutely astonishing. Saying that a thousand-year-old legislative chamber is finished because it rejected a terrible piece of legislation proposed by someone who has been a Member for Parliament for five years. Embarrassingly narcissistic.
Dignity in Dying@dignityindying

The House of Lords has “signed its own death warrant.” Kim Leadbeater MP warns a minority of Peers are damaging the legitimacy of the House by blocking the public and MP-backed assisted dying Bill.

I think we have to accept that Keir Starmer is 100% scandal. Nothing will take him down other than possibly electoral oblivion on 7th May. Seemingly every other day a new lie or scandal is exposed and we are stuck with him It has exposed our democracy whereby we are governed by a political party no longer has any moral right to be in power. I am still arguing for one fifth of our MPs to be elected every year rather than all of them being elected every 5 years. We would have already had the opportunity to vote out a huge number of Labour MPs with another 150 seats up for grabs within a few months. Surely it would be a better way.

I voted in favour of the Assisted Dying Bill. I share the disappointment felt by many today, whilst also recognising that others will be relieved at this outcome. We must now move forward as a country to ensure that everyone in Scotland has dignity in dying.
